Freelander 1 Facelift After Market Head Unit

Hi So I'd like to switch out the factory fitted head unit with an after market one to get hands free & DAB. I know I need an adaptor plate and some leads but I'm not sure if I need one for power& speakers and another for SWC or whether a single ISO will do both? Also, the unit itself. E-bay...

Freelander 1 Anyone selling a soft top roof?

If you are still looking I have one off a 2002 TD4 GS. If yours is 2000 then you'll be pre TD4 and I'm not sure if that's significant. I don't think it is but it would be wise to check. I've not had it on the car since last year (because it rains when I put it on so you all have me to thank for...

    Freelander 1 soft top hooks..?

I assume you mean the little black plastic hooks on the outside? There are four of them and they point towards the front of the car. They are to keep the open roof nice and neat along the roof line. When the roof is open you have a little flappy bit inside that is normally rolled up and fixed...

Freelander 1 Facelift F1 Crankcase Breather

Hi Please could someone let me know if the replacement BMW cyclone oil separator fits the facelift Freelander? I don't have an issue but learnt the hard way that if these clog up it gets messy so thinking of changing it as a precaution. Fritz

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

So I just thought I'd let you know the ending...I found a 54 plate @ 90K with FSH. New VCU, new injectors, clutch, etc. etc. so I bought it. @td4van I had the car towed to my work (big yard) and was chatting with RAC man who was shifting it for me. He also said knowing the TD4 engine it's much...

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

Hi guys Sorry I've not posted sooner but I've been extremely busy at work. So desk cleared I decided to tackle the Freelander this afternoon and I have a major (as in I think terminal) problem. I was just about to drain the coolant so I took the cap off the expansion bottle and noticed that...

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

Apologies, I posted before I added a reply to this post. So when I first suspected I had a cooling issue I was driving with the heater on and fan blowing setting 2. Might that normally be enough to keep the engine cool enough? When I was out today the heater fan wasn't on at all because I...

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

Hey thanks again for the help gents So the steam from the expansion tank was between the female cap thread and the male tank thread. I'm not sure if that's how the cap works or not but I can see how micro cracks around the cap could be the source. I'll check it out. The stat is next to the...

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

Hey thanks for the replies gents, most helpful. I went for a run in it today and had similar issues, internal gauge sat at about half way but engine is obviously too hot. This time I could hear steam coming from the top of the expansion tank and when it had cooled right down I had to top up on...

Freelander 1 I Don't Think My Coolant Fans Are Kicking In

Hi I wonder if someone could help with a possible coolant fan problem. I have a 2002 TD4 and I don't think the coolant fans are kicking in. The temperature gauge doesn't go over half way, well maybe a tad over on a long run, but the engine smells hot and is radiating heat. Recently it...

Freelander 1 Is the Aerial Amplified?

I want to fit a splitter so I can use the original aerial with a DAB head unit but I don't think they work if the aerial is amplified....soooo, anyone know? Thanks fritz

    Freelander 1 Latest Problem...Starting Woes

It was indeed that little green ring so thanks again for the advice. Took just under an hour including thinking time to fit. RAVE says remove the intake manifold but you don't need to. Disconnect battery - remove acoustic cover- undo and pull starter motor out the way (no need to completely...

    Freelander 1 Latest Problem...Starting Woes

Hey thanks guys, very much appreciated. Ordered the kit and should get it Friday and I'm reckoning an hour or two to fit. At the moment I'm easy starting twice a day (to and from work). I guess maybe the bus and train tomorrow then? Fritz

    Freelander 1 Latest Problem...Starting Woes

Hi Thanks for the replies. I just checked with my mate (he owns the snap-on thing) and apparently the reading on the snap-on module was 3.5 bar so that would be the 50 psi I guess. We (read he) checked the injector loom and rail pressure sensor connection (heard they are prone to corrosion)...

    Freelander 1 Latest Problem...Starting Woes

So recently I had a catastrophic failure of my alternator on my Freelander 1 02 GS TD4. By catastrophic I mean think lots of overheated electrics internally, lots of smoke, and that nasty burnt insulation smell. Anyway the alternator has been replaced along with the lead that connects the...

Freelander 1 Alternator to Starter Motor Cable

Hey thanks for the reply. Fortunately it wasn't that part (at £ 900!!) but it put me on the right track so thanks again. The part I needed was YTA101531 although that's from a Rover 75. LR dealer wanted £ 97 for it but I got the OEM part off a Rover dealer for £ 20. Fritz

Freelander 1 Alternator to Starter Motor Cable

Hi guys I'm trying to source the above cable but I'm being told that it's part of the main loom. Not sure how that can be as it's a short cable not connected to anything else as far as I can tell. Any ideas what it's called, a part number, or what I can use as an alternative (maybe a...

Freelander 1 Water leak (I can see steam)

Just to let you guys no that it wasn't steam. It was the alternator on its way out. Also damaged the heavy duty cable from alternator to starter motor which I now need to source but that's for another thread Fritz

Freelander 1 Water leak (I can see steam)

Well I'm still none the wiser. I removed the air inlet pipe and the screen wash bit to see if I could get a better view but I still can't find where it's coming from. I've felt all around the top rad hose and it seems ok (at least dry to the touch). Return to the expansion tank seems ok too...
