Please help curiosity has got the better of me, on the roof of a freelander 1soft top it has a number of hooks, what are these for..?
I'm assuming to secure the roof when open, however that's what the side studs do,
A photo of in use would be amazing.

I assume you mean the little black plastic hooks on the outside? There are four of them and they point towards the front of the car.

They are to keep the open roof nice and neat along the roof line.

When the roof is open you have a little flappy bit inside that is normally rolled up and fixed to the soft top by press studs. Pull the press studs and unwrap. This then pulls up over the roof and clips onto those plastic hooks. The flappy bit has a long plastic section along its leading edge and this clips to those hooks. It's quite a tight fit.

You should also have two not quite rectangular sections that slide into the guides on the side and fix with press studs. These are to keep the side sections nice and neat.

P.S. Sorry can't take a photo as I don't have the soft top on at the moment and neither do I know how to upload photos

Thanks for the detailed reply, I've been using the side sections but will investigate the rolled up section soon, great help.
