    Freelander 1 ECU differences

Nothing more than idle curiosity, but is each model Freelander fitted with a different ECU, or is it just one type, but with factory/dealer unlocked features?

    Freelander td4 recommission

My 2001 k series sat on the drive for 4 years when I was working from home. The tyres looked great, but I didn't trust them, so changed all 5. Brakes were rusty so they were changed too. I gave it a service myself, but had the garage change the diff and gearbox oil. I also flushed the...

What have you done to your Freelander today

SORN'd her, then discovered a flat offside front tyre, and a matching flat battery. Sod all I can do about the tyre right now, but I hooked up my trickle charger to the battery. Unfortunately there wasn't enough charge left to engage the charging circuit, so I hooked up another one too. Still...

Freelander 1 Tilt Forward seat backs(3door)

Mine was held together with some type of clip at the base of the seat cover. Pull those apart careful and you can slide the cover up and off. There are loads of YouTube car seat refurb videos which show how it's done.

Freelander 1 Tilt Forward seat backs(3door)

I did this on my front passenger seat a couple of years ago. Undo the seat back cover and you'll find the wire has popped out of the retaining bracket in the handle. Quite an easy fix if I remember rightly. If I can do it, anyone can!

Freelander 1 Tiny bit of mayo...

Definitely no mayo on the dipstick. Check the oil in her regularly, so would have seen it by now.

Freelander 1 Tiny bit of mayo...

I changed the inlet manifold a few weeks ago, adding a new inlet manifold gasket when I refitted it. The manifold itself was brand new. I don't know where the leak is yet. I need to jack her up as I can't see a leak from the top. How do I know if the liners are in spec?

    No, nothing like that.

Freelander 1 Tiny bit of mayo...

I drained the coolant when changing the inlet manifold a couple of weeks ago. Refilled it at the time, bled it as per Haynes, and drove it about 10 miles since then. She's always had a slow leak as I top her up once a month or so, but only a small amount. I do need a replacement expansion...

Freelander 1 Tiny bit of mayo...

I work from home, so it's like the typical old lady "once a week to the shops and back". Up hill all the way there, down hill all the way back. I like to think I'm a sensible - if boring - driver. I think I've driven her maybe a dozen times this year...

Freelander 1 Quietest tires for freebie1?

Yeah, I was thinking about that after reading Winus build thread ages ago. Thanks for the reminder!

Freelander 1 Tiny bit of mayo...

I was topping up coolant and oil just now and saw a tiny smear of mayo in the oil cap. Can I do something now to mitigate hgf, or is it fecked? I definitely can't afford to get the head skimmed. Can I get away in the short term with just replacing the gasket itself?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've got a few to try now.

Freelander 1 Quietest tires for freebie1?

As you can tell from my posts over the past few months, I'm slowly refurbing my Freelander. I'd like to reduce road noise from the tires, as I've only been buying the cheapest on offer at my local tire place. What are the quietest tires you've found? The wife and I often just don't speak...

    Freelander 1 2 mysterious cables

Just done a quick search, and am looking through the results right now, thanks Andy!

With the cabling in place, is that something I can retrofit?

    Freelander 1 2 mysterious cables

Well I still dont know what the plug hanging down from behind the glovebox is, but after removing the glovebox itself, I found a retaining clip behind it on the A post. I clipped it back up and its now not hanging down into the passenger footwell as its done for the 11 years I've owned her...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Just discovered the glovebox has a light in it, so reconnected the cables to the terminals, and hey presto, a 2.5" illuminated box! Now if only I knew what was wrong with the hazard switch led... Originally I didn't think it lit up, as it never did in 9 years of driving her, but then...

    Freelander 1 2 mysterious cables

No, I don't think that's it. The power socket works as I have my heated seat covers plugged into it. I'm trying to find a wiring diagram so I can chase it down, but thanks for the reply!
