    Freelander td4 air inlet manifold

I agree with Nodge and I rarely use a torque wrench for smaller fasteners (M8 and smaller) unless it is something critical like a cylinder head bolt. After you have snapped a few steel bolts inside an aluminium casting you develop a feel for what is about right - also known as paranoia. If you...

    Freelander td4 air inlet manifold

OOH - you nip tight! With an M6 thread I wouldn't take it past 10Nm unless you have hardened bolts (10.9 or 12.9).

Freelander 1 Looking at buying a FL1 06 that's had the prop removed.... advice please

I just paid £150 for a 53 plate TD4 that has had a bad driveshaft experience and is now 2WD - intending to use it for spares.

Bought a TD4 fixer upper and have a few questions

That could be the clue that you are looking for. The temperature gauge uses the signal from the coolant temperature sensor and that same signal determines the glow plug usage during startup. Even when the glow plug light is out, the EMS uses them to help the start process and the lumpy idle etc...

Td4 rear brake pipe joint or full replacement?

I spent a fun non-Freelander Sunday afternoon inside a Peugeot wheel arch with the same Sealey flare tool trying to put a new flare on the end of a steel pipe. After about 25 tries I finally got it to work with a vice grip holding the clamp bars on either side of the pipe to stop it pushing back...

What have you done to your Freelander today

And after getting the brakes working perfectly, it failed the MOT because there is no rubber on the pedal o_O

    Freelander 1 TD4 injector leak?

I have a mystery diesel leak (small quantities but annoying since I can't find it). It is not the spill rail and does not appear to be any of the high pressure connectors. While looking for it today I noticed that injector 1 is sitting about 1mm higher than any of the others - I am now out of my...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Today I changed the brake fluid on the Freelander. Looking at the colour of the new fluid (in the Eezibleed bottle on the left) and the old fluid in the drain bottle - I think this might have been overdue!

What have you done to your Freelander today

Are you sure that it is not the strut top bearing? Boiiing/pranging type sound is exactly what that sounds like.

    Freelander 1 TD4 (completed) & V6 (completed) Rebuild Projects

Ingenious! I hope to never have reason to take a TD4 engine out but will bear this in mind. I suspect that I damaged an oil seal when I was last in here so I may have to split the IRD from gearbox again to fix that and this would save some of the heavy lifting (or I can just keep topping up the...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Some tyres are - and an MOT fail for being in a dangerous condition if they are on the wrong way. And as for age related issues - I had figured you all for being in in the "grumpy old" category already from the posts. (I speak from the perspective of one who is a good deal older than anything...

Freelander 1 O.K so how do you get the top front IRD bolt out!?!?!

You can't get a straight extension on to this bolt because of various obstructions and there is not room to swing any kind of ratchet so a snake of extensions heading out of the right wheel arch is the only way that I could find of getting any serious torque on to the bolt. From memory, the...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Turbo Problems?

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it is the turbo - running well at higher speeds does not sound like a turbo problem. Grey smoke usually means that either the fuel/air mixture is well out of whack or there is a small amount of oil getting into the combustion chambers somehow. I don't know...

Freelander 1 td4 clutch and dmf

Well done - it is a good feeling when it is done. And that G&T tastes as good as a drink well earned. Cheers!

    I need help!

If the noise is coming from the back, take a look at the differential mounts, especially the front one. Plenty of posts on here about the problem.

Freelander 1 Rear wheel hub stuck

Borrowed a big hydraulic puller - 15 tons worth of shove according to the label. Didn't shift it! But with the puller in place and fully wound up plus a cold chisel driven between the back of the drive flange and the hub carrier it finally popped. Phew. Thanks for the input

Freelander 1 Fixed transverse link nut?

I did get it out in one piece but it changed shape a little. Now trying to find the replacement one that DPD have delivered to a random address in Aberdeenshire!

Freelander 1 Fixed transverse link nut?

Hi Matthias, looks like we both spent the weekend hammering at the same bolts. Most of these have 15mm heads and 18mm nuts and are M12 threads. The bolts at the top of the transverse links and the bottom of the longitudinal link are LR part number RYG000010 (M12 x 73mm) and the nut is part...

Freelander 1 td4 clutch and dmf

Alibro's list of things to do is pretty comprehensive and it can be done on a level driveway with some decent weather. The main difference from doing a FWD clutch is that the IRD has to come out to get to the gearbox mounting bolts. To get the IRD out you have to get some subframe bits out of...

Freelander 1 Rear wheel hub stuck

Well the sun has gone down and the midges are biting so I have given up for now. I need the car tomorrow so I put it all back the way it was except all of those bolts should come out easier next time. I can put up with a droning bearing for another week. I don't have a heavy soft faced hammer so...
