Head now off now very confused with the coolant passages took a few pics.are these triangular shaped hole water passages into the head as the one that's not blocked just runs into solid metal.

Is it ok to rotate the engine with the head off or do I have to remove the cam followers first

Well a complete waste of time new turbo is doing the same thing oil in the inlet side and oil pouring out of the blowing manifold to down pipe gasket.either it was a bad unit or something else is at play here. ideas please as right now I just want to burn it.

Is there a rule of thumb for initial setup for the boost or will it be ok as i need to drive work this week.going to order a gauge and pipe 4mm id? And reading best from intake manifold?.

I did see that but I ordered mine by giving the turbo number after I cross referenced it to make sure.turbo is held onto the manifold by four bolts.

All gone well except Haynes states there is a gasket between the turbo and manifold didn't see one taking it off and can't find any reference to one.or does the heat shield do this?.

After much reading and eBay decided for a replacement unit £200 ace turbos are only 13 miles away.will still have to fit myself to keep cost down.the only thing I'm concerned about is the sudden failure of the turbo had no smoke issue at all next moment lots and lots of smoke.

Just got back from work in the last 100 yards started belching out lots of smoke(James bond style) would say it's white but stinks of burnt oil it's not coming from the turbo or breather and the engine had a high pitch whine when I pulled up.head gasket?.300tdi edc.

The grease on the inside edge of the disc is black probably a mix of wheel bearing grease and CV one shot .did have some play in the wheel bearing probably didn't help the seal.stub axle the bit the disc hub sits on via wheel bearings.will just changing the hub seal stop this leak as no point...

I know the oil seal in the stub axle has failed and the bearings are swimming in it.will just changing the inner hub seal stop the swivel grease getting on the disc or do I have change the stub seal as well.i was only going to change the pads..."should only take an hour with tea at half...

Have you checked to see if your nsf arch linner is still there or fitted snug. mine fell off so the spray from the tyre gets sucked into the intake soaking the filter

If the mot guy notices the dpf (diesel particle filter) is missing and he's a jobs worth it will fail.done mine a few years ago no probs so far but still have it in my shed just in case.

Looking at your photo the white bit is part of the switch which has brokern off done mine in changing the oil cooler lines as i remember there was a spring in there .so you're going to need a new one only about £5 and a quick easy job.
