    How many gearbox oil changes?

Hello mate, you'll pretty-much always get a slight grating noise going from 1st to 2nd, especially when the box and it's oil are cold. When cold I find 1st to 2nd changes are best done rather slowly, then you avoid the worst of the grumbles. This is, in part, due to previous owners using ATF...

How good are Disco 4 commercials?

Hi Ru, they are fabulous vehicles, 100% reliable, 50mpg on average and can carry lots and lots of stuff. Service intervals are every 100,000mls - whether they need it or not.

    auto gearbox failure

I had a similar problem with a D2 auto I had a few years ago where it spat out all it's autobox oil on the M1 - losing all drive. Got it lifted back to my mates and when we checked out underneath (passenger side) one of the oil pipe retaining collars had come undone and allowed all the oil to...

PAS / ACE res what side it what?

Hi LRDII, I had a little of this recently and I found a problem with the pipe on the back of the pump. I had the pump off whilst doing other work and the pipe retaining clip had bitten into the pipe causing a leak. I cut about 5mm off the pipe and reconnected it all and no leaks now. Good...

Sticking CDL had to force it

WD-40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a Water Dispersant. The cables need oil or grease to keep them working properly. If cable replacement is required, give the inner a good oiling/greasing before fitting it.

If I lift the car do I need spacers

Hi Nic, the car on std. suspension will accommodate both of those sets of tyres easily and without problem - so why would you go to the expensive of raising the suspension and, more importantly, raise the centre of gravity of the vehicle, which is predominantly used for motorway cruising...

    Should I be concerned?

Did you do final topping up via the thermostat housing? If not check to see that it is full of coolant - bet it isn't thought. When doing this, ensure that the header tank cap is firmly in place, otherwise you'll over-fill the header tank.

Sticking CDL had to force it

Because on Facelift D2's (like the one in your avatar) they rarely have CDL, let alone one with the correct linkage. Dave

Wife's complaint about the gear change on my 300tdi.

If you used ATF then my advice would be to change it asap, as atf affects the working of the synchros, producing notchiness in gear selection. You really should try MTF94 oil. (from a variety of suppliers, I got mine from : MTF 94 Gear Oil Rover Honda Landrover 5 ltrs | eBay

Did you disconnect the battery before you started the job? If you didn't there's every chance you've mucked up the ride height settings. Dave

    Seized transfer box

Blôody hell !!!!! I'm delighted for you mate. Now all you need to do is start at the front and work your way back - changing all the fluids and filters and various other maintenance tasks to ensure she runs really well. Dave

    7 seater convert to commercial

Head Office won't know that the seats have been removed, but local officials on the ground - police officers, MOT types etc might try to make a point. It's just something to be mindful of, that's all.

    Front hub replacement

You shouldn't be using a torque wrench to take the nut off, only to do it up again to the designated tightness. Use a breaker bar of suitable quality.

    oil leak

Just think about the amount of airflow coming off the fan and pushing any loose oil rearwards. Also check the LHS rocker cover gasket for oil leaks.

    7 seater convert to commercial

Have you considered making yourself a large wooden 'box' as a way of lining out the interior? It would protect all the interior trim so it'll still look good when you come to sell her on.
