Hi all, a bit of advise needed please, im thinking of converting my d2 7seater to a commerical, so basically removing the rear seats for more space. Is there anything i need to know before i do that. Also will it affect MOT or need to tell the DVLA or change it on the logbook? Or it maybe not worth doing. Any ideas?

I can't give a definitive answer. I changed my 7 seat Disco to 5. Passes every MOT. DVLA fine, no problems. Can't see reducing it to 2 seats is much different.

The question that's going through my mind is, why would you bother?

The 6th & 7th seats fold away quite neatly so there's little space to be gained there and the middle row seats all fold forward. You could take them out but you won't win much space.

However, if you ever go into Central London and the LEZ (or indeed any other large city) and you've only got 2 seats, you might run into an over-zealous official saying you are commercial so can't come in!!

Really the big question is what do you hope to achieve by stripping out the seats - protecting them from harm or creating more space?

The main reason for doing it is im changing my job, so as a agricultural engineer i need to carry all of my tools so im thinking of making more space. Im trying to hunt down a commerical conversion kit with a bulkhead etc. That why i ask.

i have a 5 seater gs disco 2 td5 1999 , i have recently removed the rear seats , mainly to give the insides a big clean , tons and tons of room when they out , can`t see any problems , blinking heavy lifting the double seat out tho

Have you considered making yourself a large wooden 'box' as a way of lining out the interior? It would protect all the interior trim so it'll still look good when you come to sell her on.

The London LEZ will only know if you re-register it as a commercial/light utility and then you are instantly banned from Central London!

Head Office won't know that the seats have been removed, but local officials on the ground - police officers, MOT types etc might try to make a point.

It's just something to be mindful of, that's all.

What are the rules to removing seats when it come to mot's? If there not fitted then they can't be tested? Or is it a fail?
