P38A Dash saying 'key in' when it isn't, do I need to worry about this?

Thanks, Saint.V8, by graphite powered I assume you mean rub some pencil on to the key and work it in to the lock? Cars standing around really doesn't do them any good. Took some time for the heater controls to work and direct the air to where needed. Sprayed household polish in to the lower...

P38A What is this big thing from the boot.

Thanks for the replies, obvious really. Funny enough, Martian, I was hoping it was some form of heater that I could use when travelling in colder northern European climates!

    P38A Changing doors?

Just to update, all doors changed and pleased. Bonnet was the biggest head ache as one of the catches would align and BECM thought bonnet was openand no air suspension. Ended up taking the latch from the bonnet and putting it into the catch. Then put masking tape on bonnet and white paint on top...

P38A Dash saying 'key in' when it isn't, do I need to worry about this?

Pretty much as is says in the title. Having changed the doors, been stood for six months and flat battery the message display is giving the message the ignition key is in when I open the drivers door. Do I need to worry about this? As is have no intention but thought I had better ask in case it...

P38A Changed doors now no sound? (Apart from the tinkle of spanners as I throw them about)!

Hi, All, Just to say have managed to get some sound from my speakers and I went for the option of connecting the grey signal wire to the positive to the purple wire. Only snag is a buzz when unlocked and door electrics active. Buzz goes when door locked, not sure of current drain nor if I can...

P38A Changed doors now no sound? (Apart from the tinkle of spanners as I throw them about)!

Well I have changed the tailgates, two doors, drivers door handle, osf wing, lights and quite pleased with slow progress. But the new doors have the HK sound and it appears there are door amplifiers, my 95 dt has nothing as sophisticated. There the two door connectors fit, but the door audio(?)...

    P38A Changing doors?

Thanks for all the replies and especially your detailed description, Martian. Have managed one side and think I am pleased. More work than expected and thank crumbs for axle stands and folding wedges. Other side next weekend! No sounds though but will start another thread, if that is ok. Cheers.

    P38A Changing doors?

Thanks guys, will give it ago then. Started tonight with the tailgates, the reason I bought the doner car. Enjoyed having a little drive of a 4.6. ran lovely once warm and cleaned the MAF before starting to take to bits and much improved starting. Also very damp in side has been left standing...

    P38A Changing doors?

Well having my beloved faded bronze dt with missing tail gates next to the 97 4.6l hse with immaculate panels but farting engine, lopsided suspension and missing headlining made me wonder about a complete face lift for my DT. Since I have to change the tailgates it made me wonder about the doors...

P38A Just bought a 97 4.6L to break but feel bad.......

Just bought a 97 4.6L to break for the tailgates and bits of interior trim, (to replace those damaged when I dropped my 95 2.5dt off axle stands after doing the pins in the clutch posted a few months ago). Cheapest postage to jersey has been about £200 for the tailgates and no shipper jumping at...

P38A Broke the car yesterday, tail gate destroyed, check for other damage?

Wondered what fitted in the gaps in the tray......... Just put it down to being tired and grossly stupid and expensive mistake.

P38A Broke the car yesterday, tail gate destroyed, check for other damage?

I could well take you up on this kind offer, depends how much hassle you are willing to put up with for me to arrange collection. I think a freight company that comes to Jersey has a base in Bristol and do a collect and delivery service? Do you mind if I message you about it? Also thinking...

P38A Broke the car yesterday, tail gate destroyed, check for other damage?

Well the car (P38 manual diesel) has been off the road for a few weeks due to me fitting roll pins and not spiral pins (in the clutch fork assembly) when it happened this time last year. So have spent two days and a couple of evening taking it all apart and fitting new spirol pins. So last night...

    P38A Pins for clutch mechanism

Thanks for the replies, well it would seem rude to not pay for flights..........

P38A About to take out the gearbox out what to look for to do with clunk when reversing?

As in previous post roll pins gone (again in a year). But whilst taking it all a part what might I look out for in regard to a small but definite clonk when reversing. It happens after selecting reverse and after the clutch has taken up and the car just starts to move? UJ's? Play in prop shaft...

    P38A Pins for clutch mechanism

The clutch failed this week and I assume it is the roll pins in the mechanism failed again. Almost to the week they failed last year. So my initial thoughts was to ring the breakers but have had it towed to a flat car park and will tackle it again. But whilst researching whether to do something...

P38A P38 to Norway and back what spares to take next time?

Yes still on air but was renewed just before I bought the car 5 years ago (Pump, control block, air bags). Love it on air but will probably live to regret those words! Carry the Schroeder valve things so could pump it up if necessary and get it somewhere. I had real problems when a simple...

P38A P38 to Norway and back what spares to take next time?

If I went again I was thinking the head gasket might be useful to have already in case it went and might be easier to coerce a local mechanic to look at the job. One of the reasons for being concerned was the fact I was traveling with my dog and whilst away realised just how awkward things could...

P38A P38 to Norway and back what spares to take next time?

Thanks for the thoughts, very encouraging your mileage ovalandrover. i was thinking that having done a lot of jobs then hopefully less to go wrong and more being on a tight time schedule. I did have european breakdown cover through my insurance but when reading the small print found they would...
