    Help! Series 3 Intermittent Stalling

I would have pointed to the alternator but if you’re replaced it, possible culprit could be the connections from the solenoid. I’m actually suffering with the same problem which started a few weeks ago. Even though my alternator is only three years I’m going to replace it. Discussed it with my...

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

Bu you’ve still got to get the compression of the bush to achieve that . A crows foot is a bespoke tool that does the job in minutes.

    Hoops and canvas combo

Yes. You can use the two hoops for the rear. Obviously you don’t need the front windscreen sharks tooth fixing. For a SWB truck can, you need the correct gutter fixing. This holds the truck cab tilt properly around the cab. I’m not sure if they’re unobtainable but worth checking with Craddocks or...

Series Land Rover - The Perfect Daily Driver Classic???

No, based on using it for a 30 mile round trip commute for about 2 years. Dark start, 4 miles for the heater to get hot enough to demise. I found it devalued the enjoyment I got from driving it . I eventually broke a rear half shaft at the P&R after an hour on a bus. I have a 36 year old...

    Series 3 rear shock fixing

The bottom plate and pin for the shocker are done for and need replacement. All the parts numbers are in the workshop parts manual. The plate and pin are so corroded that there’s a risk of failure. If the pin failed it’s not catastrophic but if the holes where the U clamps are and they allow the...

Series 3 Could daily starting cause a problem?

An old diesel belter will take around 5 miles to really get hot and running sweat. What you describe isn’t enough consistent running to get the oil circulating through the journals and lubricating valves etc. You’re not doing anything to help the engine just doing what you describe.

Series 3 changing back from diesel to petrol

Cheers BB sorry for the slow response. LR have developed some really good Diesel engines in recent years but it’s all been caught up with emissions stuff and diesel has had a bad press generally. I’m not lording petrol as such cos there’s masses of passionate owners with Diesel engines. I’m just...

Series 3 changing back from diesel to petrol

If you source a good 2.25l petrol engine it’s got potential to last a long time. If the head is refurbished and the bottom is sound it’ll last indefinitely with regular maintenance. It’s a low emission engine which when well set up is really smooth and reliable. The 2.25l landy engine is an...

    S3 Electrics Dead

So, landy hadn’t been used for a week. Fired up fine and went into town, enough to warm up engine, but it cut out on me when parking, had the side lights on. Journey about 2 miles. After sitting parked for 20 minutes I switched the ignition, totally dead, no ignition or battery light. Wifey came...

Series 3 Just bought a Series III - what do I need to know?

Don’t be intimidated. For starters you now own a recognised design classic. Spare parts are available for almost all of the vehicle. There’s some obscure parts that are not available but that’s not a problem. Even the last of production line in 1983 is based on 1950’s technology- they are...

    Everything still works without fuses

Do you have a relay fitted. Little cube probably left side of radiator where the wiring loom spilts.

    Newbie

A hah! A series joiner, increasingly rare these days. Firstly welcome and walk tall cos any Series vehicle is the original landy. It only has one name and sub class of series; you’ve got an iconic vehicle. In saying that the 2.25 standard diesel is a dog of an engine. It’s challenging to get...

Series 3 Weber Carb and choke lever on steering column

I’ve got a petrol choke running through the bulkhead below beside the dashboard. It’s BL style knob. Did this when I converted from diesel to petrol. Don’t try to get too clever just get a connection unless you’re wanting concours standard.
