    Will my cheap winch work?

Although off-topic, I have a mate who keeps getting stuck on his own land....you name it and he's got stuck in it...usually on a muddy field after a week of rainfall. His automatic response is to call me. I have towed out vans, cars and quad bikes....nothing but a standard spec S3. Now he has...

    Let sleeping dogs lie?

Thanks folks......I have decided to just leave it all alone...but buy some spare parts to keep under the passenger seat box...along with the existing spare set of cooling hoses and bulbs etc. Now....to ponder if adding some gearbox oil additive from Halfords to try and quieten down the...

    Let sleeping dogs lie?

My '76 SWB SIII has been in my ownership now for about 5 years. In all that time I have NEVER replaced/serviced/checked the spark plugs, rotor arm, points or dizzy cap. I also haven't changed the ignition timing.....all I do is give it regular oil and filter changes (and gearbox/diff/swivel etc...

    Dead Battery

I posted a similar thread a month ago...and resolved it thus: Well....after failing to get her to even start on a portable pack I went to buy a new battery...Euro Car Parts couldn't find one for me, UNIPART wanted £112 quid for another lead-acid unit with a 3 year warranty...so I went to...

    What a night !!!

I did the job over the weekend...could have done it in a few hours...but took the whole day to do it right. Had to clean a huge amount of crud from the selector jaws...cleaned everything off including the top of the gearbox with brake cleaner....then fresh hi-temp grease on the now sparkling...

    What a night !!!

I have a question....just want to be sure I know what I am doing before setting about the job.... in the following pic (grabbed from a UTube vid): The bolts circled in BLUE are easy to remove (this bracket is what the AA guy bent upwards with a prybar). The two front bolts (one shown...

    What a night !!!

The metal bracket that the lever ball sits in (and held with a grub screw)...mine was bent a bit out of shape when getting the lever back in. I know you can weld around the old selecter to make the end bigger...but a new one is only a tenner and I can fix the old one later and keep it as a...

    What a night !!!

Tonight was the bonfire party. After yesterday's fix by the AA man it had been working fine- Im gonna give him a good report on the feedback form as he deserves it. I needed to turn around in the farmyard.....and the bloody thing had got stuck in reverse AGAIN ! Taxi home this time. I have...

    What a night !!!

After using my Landy on a friends farm to get everything ready for bonfire night...I parked up. After a nice meal, I jumped in and sped off across a ploughed field when I had to reverse into a farm track opening. After reversing I found I couldn't get it into neutral...the gear lever was moving...

    Battery buggered?

Well....after failing to get her to even start on a portable pack I went to buy a new battery...Euro Car Parts couldn't find one for me, UNIPART wanted £112 quid for another lead-acid unit with a 3 year warranty...so I went to Halfrauds and spoke to a guy who knows about cars and is over 40 ...

    Battery buggered?

Thanks for the ideas. I found the receipt for the battery (UNIPART) and would you believe the 3 year warranty ran out a month ago !! The receipt was for £70 quid...went on the UNIPART website and the exact same part is now....£112 quid  Went to Halfords and the spotty kid couldn't even...

    Battery buggered?

Tried to start my Landy for first time in a month....just a clicking sound. Used an old jump starter portable pack and starter turned over slowly and then quickly died. Attached a charger to the battery and big sparks for a sec....then switched on and it showed 'charging' for 5 secs then...

Stripped thread on exhaust manifold stud...

I was in the same boat when I had to replace my exhaust a year or so ago...I found it was just easier to buy a new manifold: Exhaust Manifold 4cyl - 4cyl Petrol Deffo cheaper than the labour costs for a garage to helicoil.

    Spin-on filter adapter?

That's ok once the nut is undone...but is starts ****ing out of the top while i'm using the spanner on it...once the main body has separated from the seal. A spin-on just seems less fussy and more elegant.

    Spin-on filter adapter?

Every time I do an oil service......and remove the filter...I get half a pint of filthy oil down my arm and dripping all over the propshaft. Has any one tried a mod that allows a spin-on filter to be used instead? I know they are more expensive...but they must be much less messy to change!

    seriesIII veicle jerking

My front propshaft has about 1/8th of a revolution of free play. I assume this is normal? Could it be oil on your clutch lining?

    woohoo!

I'm finally in the same boat (although mine has no hazards to worry about). Did my last bit of oily work at the weekend (oil + filter change and box/diff/grease lube). Now I am in the tidy and make pretty phase. It is ready for another winter of snow ! ;)
