I'm replacing the exhaust on my series 3, and just stripped one of the manifold studs. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how best to get studs out? (preferrably without taking out the manifold)
I've been doing some research but most of what I've seen will only work on studs with a good thread.
Need help badly,
cheers.

You could try a stud extractor or a small pair of stilsons but I bet you'll snap the stud off. Then it's manifold out and drill the stud out time, I'm afraid.

you'll struggle to get it out.....I snapped all 3 studs with an extractor and lots of wd40 with the manifold out !

as a temp fix get a die and stocks or even a die nut and re thread to a slightly smaller size and use a washer... it wont be as strong but will get you by:rolleyes:

Thanks for the input everyone. Turns out I've had a go at the dreaded rusty manifold nuts and so far it seems they're actually gonna come off fairly easily. (Some of them weren't even tightened...)
So I'm thinking new manifold like Gingerpuss said (if I can't get the studs out). Seems too easy though, as always something's bound to go wrong.
Thanks again guys.

If it's the petrol there's a difficult to reach nut on the top of the middle branch. I think you have to remove the inlet manifold to get to it, otherwise it's straightforward. Replace all three gaskets.

if the manifolds comin off, clamp stud in vice an heat manifold next to stus untill dul cheery red. apply forwards backwards twisting motion to manifold until you feel stud turning.
dont burn yer fingers.
