    Series 3 - 2.25 petrol over heating

I had a similar problem with a Rover SD1 I once had. Turned out my 'new' thermostat was faulty.. so bought another and it all worked. These days.. I will always buy 2 thermostats at the same time.. because they are cheap.. and swapping them over pretty much proves or eliminates it as the...

    SIII Fusebox Query

Wow.. a 35A fuse !! Thanks for the info. I just disconnected the fusebox from the lower cowling and cleaned every lucar spade connection with gritpaper and cleaned it all out with contact cleaner. I noticed that the wires at the bottom (nearest the pedals) were quite thick.. but the...

    SIII Fusebox Query

Hi All, I had a good look at the fusebox located under the steering column... and noticed that all my fuses were rated at 17 Amp !! I can't see in the owner's manual what the fuse ratings should be... but I bought a selection of different ratings at the Woodvale Rally over the weekend...

    Yet another brakes query !

Almost embarrassing now with all my brake woes ! I got a set of new front axle brake shoes for my 88' 1976 petrol. On each side, one of the shoes has a peg attached - for the adjuster snail cam to push against. The new shoes I bought (from local UNIPART outlet) includes the pegs in a small...

    Nipples !

Ha.. it just failed its MOT... apart from binding front nearside brakes.. just the headlight aim and a rubber bush. ;) Today I went and bought new brake shoes and wheel cylinders. My main problem will probably be removing the old parts. I was also thinking of buying a brake pipe flaring tool...

    Nipples !

I already tried to undo the nuts holding the cylinder on... they are NOT budging without an angle grinder !! May need to quickly learn how to fashion brake pipe and flare ends etc !!

    Nipples !

I was just about to bleed my front brakes... but there is only a bleed nipple on the offside wheel cylinder.... the nearside wheel cylinder has no nipple! ... but there is a small hole where the bleed nipple should go! Is that normal... and with a missing nipple how come brake fluid isn't...

    Binding Drum. PLEASE HELP !

OK.. this will sound like a really stupid question... but are BOTH pistons meant to move - or just the trailing shoe piston? I started to strip the wheel cylinder and used a clamp to push the pistons in... the trailing piston moved - albeit stiffly (looked very dry so gave it copper grease and...

    Binding Drum. PLEASE HELP !

You might well be right.. I just took off the other (good) drum and the piston do seem to be further in. I will get out the copper grease and cleaning brushes !

Hi, In the adjuster side, the spring connects to the peg in the shoe... the other end of the spring of course goes to the peg on the backplate.

    Binding Drum. PLEASE HELP !

Hi again folks, You may have enjoyed my earlier thread about yesterday's MOT failure issues: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f6/mot-misery-77246.html Today, I (eventually!) managed to remove both front brake drums. In fact, the MOT had failed the front nearside brake for binding... although...

    MOT Misery

Thanks for the feedback folks. I was slightly surprised when the MOT tester said he thought the brakes problem might be wrong type of "pads" or stuck caliper piston on the "disks"... I wanted to point out that they were drums all round and that he was clearly an idiot... but I bit my tongue ...

    MOT Misery

Hi Folks, Had the MOT done today... failed ! 1) Worn bushes on shocks 2) Rear brakes binding 3) And most peculiar.. lack of headlight beam pattern ! I had a closer look at my headlights (marked as lucas) and there isn't any pattern moulded into the glass - except a sort of zig-zag...
