SIII Fusebox Query

Hi All,

I had a good look at the fusebox located under the steering column... and noticed that all my fuses were rated at 17 Amp !!

I can't see in the owner's manual what the fuse ratings should be... but I bought a selection of different ratings at the Woodvale Rally over the weekend.

Can anyone please tell me what the fuse ratings should be.. and what each of the four fuses actually supply.

At least you have fuses, 2 of mine were bolts!.

Ok, this isn't going to be much help to you, but I'm reading it from the Haynes manual for the S3

Fuse no. 1-2 Protects the lighting circuit.
Fuse no. 3-4 Is a spare circuit.
Fuse no. 5-6 Protects the directional indicator and window wiper circuits.
Fuse no. 7-8 Protects the fuel guage, water guage and the stop lights.

I think the fuses are numbered from the bottom up i.e. the fuse closest to the pedals (lowest position) is fuse 1-2 and so on on up the box.

Now I don't seem to be able to see what rating of fuse should be in each circuit but what it does say is, if a fuse blows replace it with a 35amp fuse, if this blows again then investigate the circuit with the help of the wiring diagram and check the affected circuit for earthing faults.

So by your origional question I'm sorry I cant help you but I hope the information I have provided is of some help........

Wow.. a 35A fuse !!

Thanks for the info.

I just disconnected the fusebox from the lower cowling and cleaned every lucar spade connection with gritpaper and cleaned it all out with contact cleaner.

I noticed that the wires at the bottom (nearest the pedals) were quite thick.. but the others looked more like 20A type to me... all looked original.

Maybe it's psychological... but cleaning up all the fusebox connections seems to make the lights a bit brighter and the indicator relay a bit louder !!

according to my book it confirms that all fuses are 35amp

There's only one type of fuse listed in the parts catalogue: RTC4510. Doing a search on craddocks website for this part number comes up with a 35 amp fuse, so it looks like all the fuses should be 35 amp. If you want to find out what fuses do what then pull them out one at a time and see what stops working.

Hi pulled the fuse box out of my series 3 as have no high beam got low beam pulled each fuse outto see which one does the lights only to find none of them made the lights go out any ideas ? Checked indicator stalk high beam works if i bridge terminals so think its this switch just lost on the fuse side any one any ideas would be appreciated

from what i can make out in the haynes holy book no fuses as such for the headlights, it just says fuse no/ is for lighting curcuit, the most common problem with low and main beam is the stalk, and the main cause of this failing is dirty terminals and contacts on the stalk if it still fails replace the stalk

you have the right fuses in your vehicle.Earlier models only had two situated in the engine bay.

Yep mine has a couple in the engine bay too.
Servisol is good stuff for cacked up contacts, doesnt fix burnt out ones though.

Poss very stupid question (new Landy owner) , my brake lights are not working , however fuel guage is , am I to assume that because both are operated by the same fuse that it isnt the fuse and its poss switch under bonnet? , or crap wiring , or all or none of the above (poss bulbs)

Switches seem to be a common failure. Remove the connections from the switch terminals and put them together to make a connection. If the lights come on then you either need a new switch or it possibly needs adjustment.
