24 Hours With A Defender... Some Advice?

I found once you have tackled the problems on a Defender they are quiet reliable. Providing the jobs have been done properly with good replacement parts and not so much of these cheap Chines parts. Mine often goes for long stretches without any problems. Mine is a 1990, 200 tdi. It has crossed...

    Squeaky clutch pedal !

I have recently had the same problem. I ended up using a mirror and a oil can with a long spout. With the use of the mirror I managed to get it in the right spot before giving it a few squirts from the can. Seems to have done the trick.

Below is taken from my 1990 Defender handbook

P38A 255/65/16 tyre choice. in your words!!

My understanding was that the 235 x 85 x 16 was the closest match to the original size of 7.50 x 16. which were fitted to Defenders. The only difference is the width of the tire. The 235 are a couple of mm wider. Mine has passed the French control technic several times with the 235's. The spare...

P38A 255/65/16 tyre choice. in your words!!

+1 for General Grabbers AT 2's. Good grip in both the wet and dry. Seem to be getting very good mileage out of them and they are fairly good in the snow. What swung it for me was on a trip to Morocco three years back , two vehicles had the AT 2' and they stood up to the rough treatment very...

    Britpart fan belts

I use Brit part stuff for some jobs, but for an important part like the belt I would go for a Top Johnny genuine part.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Gave it a good blast on the motorway, 70 mile round trip at 80 mph. Seems to run sweeter now. It did shake the rear number plate light to bits. I have ordered a new one as its rusted through.

    200TDI Prop Shaft

I replaced mine about three years ago. I went for a cheap one from Paddocks. No problems so far.

DIY: Applying insulation to my Landy

I don't know the answer to your questions but I'm sure some of the more qualified members will be along to help you out. What I would mention is on mine I did try insulating the floor foot wells which was a bad mistake. When it rains the water on mine drips in from around the front doors. I have...

When a 110 comes in handy

Great start to the day. At 05:00 this morning I was awaken by one of my donkeys honking. The other donkey had got out of the field somehow. I was out there in my pajamas in the pouring rain trying to catch the bastard. Once I caught him he wouldn't move. Try pulling a stubborn male donkey on wet...

    Tyre pressures...higher is better?

I have tried several tire pressure settings on my 110 and always end up coming back to the Defender recommended settings of 28 psi on the front and 48 psi in the rear which seems to work best for me.

    Turbo

I have always had a bit of oil from the turbo to the intercooler. Its been like that for about 5 years. The last time I looked there was about a tea spoon full. My Defender doesn't smoke or require any oil in between servicing. and goes very well. I always assumed it was normal. I suppose it...

    Premium diesel or normal diesel

Up until about a year ago I ran a couple of white vans here in France. 2 X Sprinter's, each with over 650.000 kilometers, A Movano with the same mileage. Always used the regular diesel and no additives. Never had any injector or any other engine issues with them. I did once fill the tank of one...

    Electric fan ( Mondeo mk3? ) in 200tdi

I found with a viscos fan the temperature gauge just sits about one third up the temp gauge and just sits there come what may. With the Kenlow the temp was up and down with the fan tripping in then bringing the temp down. I'm far happier and feel more confident with the viscos. Electric fans...
