    Whining when accelerating defender td5

I had a whistling sound coming from under my bonnet on acceleration. I could only see the leak in the hose when I blasted the engine and the hose swelled up. I'm not sure how much play you can get away with on the Turbo. I'm sure someone will get back to you when they are back from work. I...

    Whining when accelerating defender td5

How much movement was there on the turbo and did you check for leaks on the turbo hoses whilst the engine and turbo were underload?

    Morocco Easter 2018

Pleased to report my Defender passed the Control Technic ( French MOT). My copilot arrives next week from the UK to help start to get the Defender in Shape for Morocco. Re instal the roof rack. Don't think I will bother with the Snorkel as I have no intentions of wading. I will just carry an...

What oil to use? 200tdi disco/defender engine

I have been using 10w x 40 semi synthetic for the last 8 years on my 1990, 200 tdi 110. Seems to work fine for me. Oil and filter change I put in just under 6 liters of oil. I think the Haynes manual say its 5.8 liters.

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

When I removed my snorkel I found I got better MPG. I also found the plastic cover used the same screw holes that was used by the snorkel. For the Snorkel supports on the window frame I used rubber grommets so everything is there if I want to put the snorkel back on. Having had my 110 with...

My Defender passed the control technic ( MOT)

What I can't understand is last time I had some advisories which I never addressed. This time I have some different ones. I have come to the conclusion that it must repair itself. Only three more years to go before its classified as a vintage vehicle here in France, then Its a MOT every five years.

    Driving flat out

My 200 tdi has 160K on it and I often give it a good blast on the motorway. That way I can see if anything is on its way out and needs doing. According to what I have seen on here, it could be due some new rings soon.

Has anyone used a britpart drop arm?

I bought a Paddock drop arm about three years ago and its still fine. Even survived a Morocco crossing. Its one of those items I would buy again.

    Morocco Easter 2018

My Defender goes in for its Control Technic ( MOT) next week. Lets see what turns up. Now time to start seriously thinking of getting it together. Painted the roof rack. Checked the CB ariel and CB set. All seem to be in working order. Got a loud speaker this time as last time couldn't hear...

    A landy or two

Can't think of anything with a one piece flat screen like that. Not a Humber, Bedford or a Dodge weapon carrier. Or jeep. Could be a French military vehicle.

New Owner - Please Help - Tyres

I run mine on 235 x 85 x16 on off set steel wheels. No spacers. Steering locks adjusted so I have a good turning circle. I'm not a fan of having spacers. Loads of threads on here regarding spacers wearing out wheel bearings much quicker.

New Owner - Please Help - Tyres

One thing I forgot to mention which oldseadog touched on is having a smaller rim (15 inch) instead of the 16 inch may also effect the reading/ accuracy of your speedo. https://www.generaltire-tyres.com/car/tyres/summer/suv/grabber-at3 I'm not sure if you can still get the General Grabbers AT2's...

New Owner - Please Help - Tyres

Hi and welcome to the club. +1 as the above. I think the standard size rim for Defenders are 16. Someone with more knowledge will soon come on here and shoot me down if I'm wrong. I have 16 inch rims on my 110. I would imagine you will be loosing a bit of ground clearance with a smaller 15 inch...

    Bonnet spare wheel carrier

Have you tried driving a Defender with the spare wheel on the bonnet. I have a spare wheel carrier on my bonnet. I tried it a couple of times but didn't like the restricted view. Difficult to drive down roads in small villages where you have cars tightly parked. I gave up and just left the spare...

    Snow tyres

Our normal winter here in France is probably equivalent to a very bad winter in the UK. And the problem is it can change so rapidly. I have had occasions where I have had lunch out on the terrace one day, then knee deep in snow the next and that is no exaggeration. We also live right out in the...

    Snow tyres

I'm surprised you find the At2's bad in the wet. I find they are OK. Definitely much better than the old Coopers I had on previously. What tyre pressures did you run them at? I run mine with 1.9 Bar in the front and 3.3 Bar in the rear.

    Snow tyres

I don't think you will be disappointed with Vredistein tyres, As mentioned earlier on the Motor Home forums they seem to like them. Just thought I should mention, When driving in Germany in wintery conditions it is a legal requirement to have snow rated tyres. In France they are only required in...
