Has anyone used a britpart drop arm?

4 bolt box,
Did it fit ok in terms of the splines?

Reason i ask, ive been trying to find out why my steering is loose (about to just give up and give it to a garage and let them sort it)
And my neighbours friend who happens to have restored a few had a look, and said he can see there seems to be a small amount of play in the drop arm itself but everything else looks solid.

Would make sense as it was perfect with the old manual box and hasnt quite been right since i swapped over to power steering.

ive fitted quite a few all have been ok, it could depend on whether your manual was gemmer or adwest , or could be poor box splines or the drop arm itself, are you fully tightening it

It tightend up to torque, but looking at the other box i have that still has the drop arm on, its looks as if its not on the spline as far up, about 4/5mm between the drop arm and the box, it wouldnt go any further up.

5mm below bottom of the box would seem about right or more

Sorry i meant from the edge of the seal to the drop arm, practicaly no gap on my old one.

there is a gap but not as much as normally youd find, though without seeing your other drop arm fit its hard to say whether its abnormal

Not letting me upload the the second pic on here,

If the nut is kin tight I wouldnt worry about it, I fitted the britpart one with a G on the end of the part number about 3 years ago and it hasnt fell off yet!

. I think loose steering is indeed something to worry about.

I fitted a Discovery (Paddocks/Britpart) drop arm to my 90 4 years ago ... far better steering than the goose neck thing and way easier to change a worn joint, and still going well.

You can see how loose the radius arm nut was

Just to conclude my steering issues,
The recon box i put on was causing the rest of my odd feeling steering, as i turn it while its off now it feels notchy. I put my old one back on and its back to being as good as a defender can be now. :D

So maybe I missed it, but if the old box was good , why did you change it? plus where did you get the recon from?

Chers
