Hi All,
New to Land Rover and in the midst of plotting a ski trip for new year. Has anybody experience of driving in Snow with Pirelli Scorpion all seasons? I have always keept a spare set of alloys with Vreristein in the past so a little unsure how the Pirellis might match up?

hi I have a set of ranger snow tyres on my range rover seem ok but tend to be a bit slippery when its been raining if you corner a bit quick also when its dry at about 35 to 40 seem a bit noisier and the steering is a bit more wobbly but other than that fine
 
I cant say, what they are like in snow tbh, but I got some Jap ones youk somethings or koyoki somethings, but then have lasted and good grip and wear too, if its bad out I tend to use the series 2

Where we live we are in the snow line for two or three months of the year. On my car I have Good Year four seasons tyres which work quiet well. On my wifes car we have Michelin Alpine winter tyres which are great, I would say a little better than the Good Year Four seasons. My son runs Michelin Cross four season's tyres which are also very good. On my Defender I run General Grabber AT2's which also work quiet well in the snow. They are very good for straight line pulling and stopping but can loose grip when cornering I don't run the Defender with all season tires as the rubber compound tends to be softer and I do quiet a bit of driving through the forest where they would get cut and damaged.
I haven't had any experience with the Pirelli Scorpion but looking at the tread pattern images they would not be what I would go for as the tread doesn't look right for snow conditions. I did run some cheap Chinese snow tyres that had a similar tread pattern and they were worse than useless. I also have a motor home and reading on the Motor Home forums they seem to like the Vredestin which appear to last well when sticking to tarmac.
Snow tyres do work better in the snow than a mud and snow tyre. The mud and snow have a different tread pattern to be able to cope with mud conditions where you need a bigger wider tread. In the snow you need something to push the snow and water out from the tread and keep as much tyre on the road as possible. If I was going up the Alps for just one skiing holiday I would be quiet happy running the AT2's on my Defender.

We've used standard Nexen Roadian A/T for 6-7 years, and they have been good in mid England snow levels.

Vredestein are a good brand, Dutch I believe, and they produce a lot of tyres used on European military vehicles.

Just a question of picking the right one.

Thanks all for your help. I guess I just need to know that the current tyres aren't fit for purpose. In fairness, Austrian and German roads are pretty well looked after - I think I'd get away with it but the Vredisteins are calling me once more

I don't think you will be disappointed with Vredistein tyres, As mentioned earlier on the Motor Home forums they seem to like them. Just thought I should mention, When driving in Germany in wintery conditions it is a legal requirement to have snow rated tyres. In France they are only required in certain areas. ( Usually on the roads leading up to the ski resorts in bad weather.) Or snow chains are acceptable.

Thanks for the advice- I'm guessing that the OE Scorpions aren't Snow rated?
 
I run winter scorpions......really fab.
Had AT2 and really dreadful on a wet road......dry and snow...great...
 
I've got nexans suv winters on mine and they're great in the snow as you can see from my profile pic.
I bought them in Czech and never once got stuck. I've driven them all summer and never had a problem.
Not tried them on mud but for what I use them for they're great
