    Drop arm ball joint boot

Need to replace the rubber boot on the drop arm ball joint. Having removed the split pin and castle nut i was thinking that the steering damper bracket should just lift off giving access to the boot but oh no. After liberal use of wd40 and hammer it still refuses to lift off. Any ideas on what...

    Defender TD5 or TDi?

Mines a 2000 TD5 and apart from the usual wear and tear it's been good to me. I've not got a background of mechanics but with forum help and a little bit of common sense i've managed to do any work needed on it so far. Apart from the grazed knuckles and rusted bolts which you'll find with most...

insurance renewal expensive! any companies recommended?

Just given them a ring to see if they could do anything on the price and was told it was correct but they could knock around £10 off !!! Didn't seem that interested in keeping me happy or my business. Time to look elsewhere i think.

insurance renewal expensive! any companies recommended?

Going to have to give some of these a ring. Got my insurance renewal through today from Lancaster and it's gone from £186 to £681 !!!!! Thats on a 2000 TD5 with full no claims and 4000 miles a year. I was expecting a slight rise in price but this seems a bit steep to me.

    Defender Bike Rack

Don't think it has to be a defender specific carrier, there are a number of 4X4 bike racks out there that would do the job. I'm looking at fitting a pair of these Wiggle | Saris Track Trap Bicycle Fork Mount (TR1BLK) Car Racks into the back of my pick up as i've never really liked the idea...

Unable to get underneath today due to other commitments. Discomikey its a pick up so i've ruled out the van sides and as for the ifor williams cover its currently sitting unused in my parents garden although when i did have it on the mesh tailgate did make a lot of noise if it wasn't closed...

rattle like towing an empty trailer

Got a very similar sounding rattle in my td5 2000 pickup that i'm going to investigate this weekend. I was just wondering if you did manage to trace the source of the problem mrdsgs?? Any help would be appreciated although i'm leaning towards either a loose panel or heat shield or maybe rear...

    How much propshaft play? Video

Looks very similar to my 2000 td5 pickup, i also get the "clonk" when changing gear unless i take care with the clutch pedal and a similar sounding rattle/clonk when i turn the engine off. Although the sound when turning off the engine doesn't happen if i keep my foot on the clutch! I'm thinking...

    TD5 90 holding back

Got the same sort of problem, it accelerates ok up to a point then seems to lack power. If i continue to try and push it i get a bit of vibration as if the engine is lacking fuel maybe ? Going to check the fuel filter and maf sensor when i get a chance and probably the ecu connector.

    90 Pickup load bay options

I'm looking to clean up the load bay in my pickup due to the fact that the last owner painted some sort of rubber non-slip stuff in there and it's now coming off in large chunks. The question is do i go for some sort of chequer plate or go for the full rubber load mat which goes over the wheel...

    Early TD5 buying tips?

With any luck i'll be viewing and hopefully buying my first defender this weekend. Looking through all the old posts i think i've got a fair idea of what to look out for but are there any problems specific to early TD5's that i should be aware of? It's a 2000 90 pickup, looks clean and rot free...

    Scam Warning !!

Just a word of warning. I've been looking for a nice unmolested 90 pickup for a while now so when i saw 2001 Td5 for a reasonable price i thought my luck was in. The defender was situated in Liverpool but the owners living in Sweden. (slightly odd but explainable by the owners) Emails were...

Am i looking in the wrong places?

Trying to find myself a good unmolested 90 pick up. Got around £6000 pounds burning a hole in my pocket and seriously considering buying my first defender. I'm looking at all the usual internet sites that come up on the browser but is there anywhere else i should be looking or any obscure sites...
