  • Hello James , hope you dont mind me sending you a question, you seem to be the most knowledgeable person on here. I posted a question about 3.5 RR duel down pipe exhaust manifolds compared with 3.9, am trying to find out if they are the same or there is a real diffrence. Many thanks Dave
    Hello James
Another forum member suggested I drop you an e-mail regarding my r380 gearbox - purchased a year ago as a rebuilt box/sat on the shelf ever since/ I need to swap the input shaft for a shorter version - how big a job is this please - I already have the short shaft...thanks for any advice...

forgot to mention the reason I want to use the 10 spline rear is it has an arb locking diff centre. Without mentioning that it may seam a little strange!
Hi James, Paul D reccomended I contact you regards rebuilding a diff. You gave me the lead the other day about my front pinion bearing failing, well I have two possible soloutions to replace the diff. I have currently a 10 spline diff that I can replace with a good 24 spline and HS's. But what I also have is a good 10 spline built diff, but its been used on the rear. Paul D suggested I rebuild it with the old front crown and pinion gears from the orriginal diff. He said its not tooo hard to do. Is it just a question of marking the bearing adjusters positions and reassembling the same way? How do I know when the back lash is correct? I appreciate your help, thanks Jim
i posted about it today, its a g reg defender, but has had a 300tdi conversion, all the wireing under the bonnet is a mess, was wondering how much it would cost to rewire the lot.
Hi James, sorry to bother you....I have a 1993 110 200tdi with a rear salisbury drum axle...thinking about changing it to disc...have seen this on ebay will it fit OK? LAND ROVER 110 DEFENDER XS LATE TDCI, REAR ABS AXLE APPROX 2010/11 | eBay will it fit OK???????
    Hi James
I have a D reg td 90 that I use for a daily runner, not really an off roader as such. What advantages would I get fitting a front axle of a K reg 200tdi disco? I am doing the engine conversion and was just wondering what else i could use off the donnor.
    Thanks
    John
Hello, saint.V8 has suggested that I contact you. I have copied my post below:

I am worried about recent problems with the gearbox in my 2007 4.2 SC. Mileage is 76,500, owned since September last year. In the last couple of weeks there have been half a dozen occasions when the car will not pull away, it just revs. Also, when approaching a roundabout recently there was a 'crunch' as if I started pulling away just as the box changed down to first and then it had to change up to second if that makes sense! (this has only happened once). The 'trigger' on the gear selector appears to have failed, i.e. you can push it from D to N without depressing the trigger - could it be this, i.e. it's slipping into neutral? The car drives fine the rest of the time, although thinking about it the gearchange has felt a bit strange. Having read other threads on here about similar problems I am concerned that the gearbox may be on it's way out. Any advice/comments welcome. Thanks.

    Thankyou.
    hi james

Hi Martin dont worry about the transfer box for a while, I think I may have buggered
up the engine yesterday lost all its water got to sort that first.
Hi Martin checked it out looks like I need 4.1 ratio crownwheel and pinions, tried to
order some but KAM are not going to have any until the end of feb.Did you look at
your transfer box ie the coupling?.
    Regards Doug
hi thanks for your reply - not sure wot I'm talkin bout - trying to get the part for the guy who's doin the repair - he says he needs a diff unit -= but when i was offered a viscose coupling he said that would do - but added that he hoped he wouldnt then find summat else wrong ? - car was in gear doin bout 35mph - just started revving - - then wouldnt go into any gear - just rev's - no pior slipping or hint of trouble - once he stripped it said it was the diff unit ( or full transfer box )!
Hi Martin forgot to say my car is a 1995 3.9 disco V8 and it has a temp sensor in the
    transfer box.
    Regards Doug
Hi mate just a quick note to say thanks for all your help got boxes back in and all gear changes are smooth both up and down the box and no oil leaks, if you're ever in my part of the country call in and see me. Paul
