Series 3 Coolant leak advice please

+1 shoot the pump. The water is likely coming from the weep hole in the casting - which is there to warn you that the graphite seal Castor mentioned has perished. You have 2 ways to go - replace the pump completely or rebuild the old one. I tend to do the latter, but have a shop with the toys...

    Please help. Random power loss

Dumb question - is the stop cable slipping in and cutting off your Diesel supply? Might be worth a yank on that to make sure it's fully open. barring that I agree that it's the lift pump or you've got an air leak somewhere. One thing to try as well might be rerouting the fuel pickup pipe from...

    Window rubber supplier.

Re: Rubber double seal for truck cab: When I did mine lo these many years ago that is what I used on the curved side windows - the seal with a lock strip that has one slot sized for the ally, and the other at 1/4" for the glass. So, if it's like that (I do not have the Woolies' site open to...

    Steering feels rough

To expand on brown's comments above, were it me I'd be breaking the system into sections to find out where the dodgy bit is. Disconnect the steering relay shaft and check the column, then disconnect the drop arm and make sure the steering box rotates smoothly thru its range.. then onto the...

    What's your Apollo 13 moment?

Series IIA 109 of 1964 vintage, previously owned by a semi-moron... Coming off one motorway onto another, downshift from 4th to 3rd and SNAP off comes the gearstick - in neutral. Coasted to the side off the tarmac and working through the oil-fill port (rev. A gearbox) with a couple of...

    Complete re-wire

The only difference between EE and ME is that you can't see the bits move to see what's wrong. :) To that end, you need to expose the activity. here is where a few simple tools come in - a continuity tester, volt meter, test lamp and the schematics for the toy in question. The continuity...

Electrical advice required: Engine Bay Connectors

What are the colour codes on the wires that yoou need to plug in? Might be the easiest way to tell where they need to go on the block. Do tell, please - i couldn't make it out from the pictures. Alan

    New owner saying hello

Speaking as one who owns a 64 and a 54...I might argue that sentiment just a WEE bit... :) More seriously though welcome and never hesitate to ask questions. Alan

Weight of engine / gearbox / axles

Significantly the same. The big difference there is the weight of the injection pump/injectors and the vaccum pump if so fitted vs. the weight of the distributor. 10-20 pounds I suspect, no more.Use the same figure and you won;t go far wrong.

2.5na exmod injector removal. It's stuck.

Might be you never got a proper seal on that one and it's carboned up/overheated and stuck itself in the bore. Gently tapping the ears back and forth might help - if you can get the studs out to give it more motion that might help as well. II always hesitate to whack too hard on an injector -...

    Mind of there own indicators

TBH if all of the lights are lighting with the stalk flipped and they're not flashing i'd be after the flasher module. The electronic ones will fail like this - the timer circuit doesn't start so no clicking. I have also seen the hazard module fail like this - the internal contacts go...

Headlights stopped working, then they did, now they...

I'd be looking at the connection to the switches, as well as the connections to the lights/grounds. Check andclean the relevant fuses and contact springs as well - they can corrode and look fine but not make contact. This should not be rocket science to trace - the circuit is pretty simple -...

what are these bits found in the sump?

The one I have is like the latter, but smaller and screw-activated rather than a lever type. You just engage the jaws in the coils of the spring (jaws are offset in length for that reason) and lock the spring in the compressed position. pushing down on the spring then loosens the keepers so...

what are these bits found in the sump?

Re: Fiddly job: Not a nightmare, really. The trick is reatining the valves while changing the seals and that is usually done with either air pressure or a length of sash cord stuffed into the cylinder thru a sparkplug hole or a heater plug port. i can get thru replacing the seals on one of my...

what are these bits found in the sump?

Yes, you can. i've done it many times on 2.25s and 2.5Ds and while you need a torque wrench to re-torque the head bolts removed you can do it. You're not taking all the head bolts out, so things will stay in place. ajr

    Need advice choosing please!

Sounds like my daughter. She's been driving LR products since she was 16 (30 now). She has had RRCs, Discos and is now on to a D2. She has driven my Series trucks and Defender but her favorite is my Series I. Considering her first Range Rover saved her life when she was broadsided by an...

    Battery light

You've either had a random failure or the plug at the back of the alternator is loose. Pull and reset the connections, and then use a voltmeter and make sure you're getting 12 volts on everything there at the back with the engine stopped. Alan
