Considering the British government takes about 45 billion a year is motoring related taxes our roads are a bloody disgrace. At least the ones around here. They will all be like billiard tables around London no doubt. That's what the **** off is.:mad:

Most of that budget is taken up with road cones & roadworks signs....shame there is scarcely any actual 'work' going on!

Working at near Heathrow is as close to London as I like to get....and the roads here are not much better!

Speaking as someone who spent a great deal of time "around London", I can assume you this is most definitely not the case.

They probably should be, given that London and the South East generates a sizeable portion of the UK's wealth, but hey, that's another topic... ;)

Yeah forgot that London is the banking capitol of the world. Who caused most of the current deficit? ;)

The (now defunct) FSA mainly. They set the regulations on what can and can't be done. But to be honest, we all had a part due the cheap credit on offer, etc, etc

Deficit? Er, that would be OESI, otherwise known as Gordon Brown.
It was the labour government that adopted so called "Light Touch" banking control that allowed the greedy b(w)anking bastards to go out of control, and he who ran up the huge national deficit.:) The current lot are no better when it comes to dealing with the banks, no one has gone to jail.

We were in a much better position when the north represented the huge industrial contribution. The investment from the 'towers' of London just isn't there anymore to support industry which is why we are now a nation of importers

So the people having to bail out the banks was our fault. Didn't see it that way myself to be honest. ;)

Well we all had a part but the banks mainly yes. However, much like the current Google/Starbucks thing about them not paying enough tax, etc it's the regulations that allow this, the companies just take advantage.

Correct. They would rather support industry in other countries and make much larger profits. What they don't quite realise is that the industry in other countries is controlled by the other countries governments. So they can control us indirectly.

Well, the way i see it is 'Hey, we just sold you a sub prime mortgage but hey, because of all the borrowed 'wealth' we've pumped into the economy your house is worth more so we can lend you even more on your equity....go get that nice new car & a few holidays..........oh sorry, we just realized there's no money left, we'll be needing the car back...oh & the house.....sorry'

Yes but the people of Britain don't make the regulations, the tossers we vote in make those. Mostly designed to keep the rich, rich, the middle class just happy and the poor subservient.

...Personally, I wouldn't rule out either - go for the one that ticks all the boxes, works as it should and has been well maintained.

I think this is the best approach. Thanks to you all for your contributions, RR and banking, I am going to head for the best example overall and take whatever engine comes with it. Going to take a look at a few this week in Derby hopefully when I'm in the office and fingers crossed will have something for the holiday season.

I shall look forward to posting details when I finally purchase one!

Thanks again.
