As before, I'll pray it hasn't blended the Ally. I "think" the bolt has melted before the aluminium.

Been doing other jobs distracting me from the car (that I was dreading) but here's the update.
Milliput failed due to frosty weather not letting it set and lack of plusgas (for fear it would stop the Milliput sticking) so the Milliput popped off with a little force but no movement of the bolt. Couldn't get a drill in with a screw removal tool but I remembered I had a flexible drill adapter for tight spaces. The screw removal bits wouldn't fit so I used an angle grinder to cut one in half (hack saw wouldn't cut it. Literally). Got the drill half to fit and started drilling anticlockwise & to my delight/surprise the bolt started unscrewing. I can't tell you how good the feeling is. All the dread slips away.

Note: I did spray the bolt with plusgas the previous day which likely helped the most.

Threads in the block felt fine so I'll give it a spray of break cleaner & the pulleys, too.

Result👍.

It was never gonna be tight in there as you had just screwed it in (unless you used a different bolt and bottomed out).

Sometimes the torque elbow is better. There are few things that actually need a torque wrench, with experience. I wouldnt have used 1 in this case TBH.

At least now you can move forward:).

So how you going to do up the next 1?

It might if it had ripped through the aluminium thread & wedged in, which is what I was dreading.

I know but when you trust someone on YouTube who "seems" to know what they're doing you assume they're right. I thought if he's confidently posted that torque setting and he himself torqued his pulley bolts up like that on camera and he had no issues, then what's the problem.

23NM 23NM 23NM 23NM 23NM 23NM
Haha. But where was that torque setting from?

Another thing! I can't find a torque setting for the tensioner elbow securing cap. Again is it a case of if it feels tight that'll do?

Thanks lads. I'd have probably given up with your posts.

There are many vids out there, and they are great to see how stuff comes apart or goes together, if I need to watch.

But once seen it gives info to check things like when they give specific numbers.

Did you make a vid to say I followed this "guy" and look what happened :).

That 23 is just the "fit damper and pulley to hub" bit. I don't even know what you're doing really (I'm a V8 petrol sort of guy) so ignore me!

This is from RAVE. A good rule of thumb if your actual bolt isn't listed in RAVE.

You have to strip a thread or two to learn your feels.... It still can happen and thank God for helicoil kits👌😎
Or screw something in an ole that has been overdone before, then think "oh thats tight enough"
Did a sump plug up today and thought " thats enough" will check for leaks tomozz :).

Its an elbow torque thing that can only be learnt, some from mistakes;).

Almost all torque settings are in RAVE and there are generic ones in there to cover anything they miss. Sometimes it puts a value in the section text but sometimes you have to check the section at the start.

Preaching to the clicking elbow owner :p.

Put an oil filter on today and used the wrist click for the right torque;).
