Not today but saturday - removed engine and swapped fitted new clutch and belts to the new (good second hand) engine. Was going to poke it back in its hole but thought i should fit another gearbox due to my little crack causing it to dribble

Thought about fitting a recon IRD from Bell whilst its all out infront of me but i cant quite swallow the cost of £650 just for piece of mind. Perhaps something to add to the ever increasing to-do-list.

Hopefully have the engine back in this sat and hear her pur....if i can remember where all those clips and connectors went!

Replaced the wildly vibrating off side front drive shaft on my early 2000 XEDi Freelander. I've used a (no sniggers please) Britpart driveshaft. Old one came out without too much trouble but two things to note about the replacement:-

1. The end of the new driveshaft was'nt very well tapered so I had to file a better taper on it so that it could be inserted into g/box

2. The old shaft had a 32mm nut on the end. The new is 36mm - had to go out and by a new socket

Other than that dead easy!

Mine was exactly the same, it took me about 2minutes of checking the socket on the old nut before I realised it was a different size.

I did exactly the same Mick. I thought, "Oh, I've picked up the wrong socket off the floor" but then noticed also I could'nt use the old nut 'cos it's also a different thread. Then I spent a mad 10 mins nocking on neighbours doors to see who could help me out as the tool shop had closed 1 hour before...:censored:

Fitted the Synergy 2 and DPH silicon hoses, was going to fit the EGR bypass but it didn't fit, this is the replacement that I was sent for the first one that didn't fit. Disconnected the pipe and blanked it off.

Went out for a quick test drive on the fun / fun setting (5) and thought it drove great, throttle response was musch better and the engine rev'd much smoother. I haven't fitted the dash switch yet, I'm struggling to see where I can get the cable through from the engine bay into the cabin, any suggestions?

I was going to replace the crankcase breather for the BMW one but couldn't find the one I bought anywhere in my garage. Grrrrrrrrrr

I've had to order another one from BMW, it'll be here tomorrow morning and cheaper than ebay, sick at having to buy another one but want to get that job done, pretty sure the old one is chocked. The one in my garage will turn up when I'm not looking for it.

Still got the drivers window regulator to fit, hopefully get that and the breather done tomorrow.

Through the bonnet release cable gromit. Follow the cable from the back of the leaver in drivers footwell.

Filled the back with half an Ash tree out of the wood ,
It made interesting driving back up the field to the gate the TC was clicking away like a good un.
I knew I had taken the CAMAC'S off to soon when I had three attempts to get across the tractor ruts:)

Tested his cooling system to make sure the pipes get hot, the stat opens and coolant heats the radiator and the fans come on when the coolant gets hot enough.
