And the new battery's in. It's a little bigger than the old one but there's still room in the battery box and the terminals don't foul the top of the seatbox where it lives. The engine starts really quickly now.

It's an Enduroline C31-1000. Tayna was doing them for just over £105 a few days ago but I can't seem to find them again! Everybody else seems to have put them up to £130-140 now.

Maybe I've been lucky for a change. I usually find myself having to buy things just after the price goes up, rather than just before.

Replaced the Servo unit with a shiny new one, bled the brakes through with fresh fluid and…….no difference at all, still no bite in the brakes! Pads and Discs are recent and the calipers are all free - so it’s back to not enough suck from the vacuum pump. That’s next weekends treat…..

Afternoon off, fitted new vacuum pump and…Et Voila! We have brakes - better than ever! More suction than a friendly Thai, so I suspect the old one was on the wane for a while.

I’d post a pic but that privilege has disappeared for reasons unknown….
 
Tuesday. Stuck in new fuse box, and suddenly found I had a fuel gauge that worked, sidelights, and assorted other electrical systems. The gradual exorcism of Lucas continues.

Yesterday- 900 vertical meters to a ski station. Tried to pick up a parcel of landy bits ( including a hopefully correct indicator switch), and of course the delivery agents denied any knowledge it ever existed. Went to supermarket, and found a guy with bonnet up in the car park - who doesn't have jump leads and a reasonable tool set in the back? Found lots of things it wasn't, but still wouldn't start.
Back home, and found somewhere flat and snow free to park, so I could change the oil. Let it drain while still warm.

Today. Realised I'd pulled the sump plug, but not the oil filter. Tried to pull to oil filter- jammed. Tried to find the chain wrench- don't be silly. Had a beer, swore at the thing and stuck a woodworking ratchet clamp on it, which provided enough grip to get it loose. Realised at some point in this process I'd dropped the sump plug in the drip tray. Swore some more. Filled it back up with tractor oil ( Elf agri-tec 15 W 30. Unsophisticated oil for unsophisticated tractor engines, like a 19J...)
 
Drove it into town today to drop M off to pick the posh 1 up.
Checked LPG tank and mileage(KMs) before leaving yep plenty should get there and fill up somewhere on the way home, (Had 150 more before filling).

Got M dropped and off home I go (got to get a head start;)). Didnt go so well as it broke down (I should I say I broke it down) in 1 of the worst possibly places on a big 2 lane bridge out of town:eek:, managed to roll back 100yards to a safe space. Quick text to M just incase she had any thoughts of going shopping;). 5mins later the Big Black L322 pulls up, quickly hook up the pre prepared tow wire and off we scoot, after I reminded M, I have hardly any brakes and hard steering, so if she didn't want her backend stoved in, to be gentle with me:p:D:D.

So off we tow 20kms to the next garage, pull up at the LPG pump and cross everything that this is the issue (even though we had more on a tank before and the gauge was still showing 1/4) Tank took 40Ls that's nowhere near emptyo_O.
Started up fine and drove the rest of the way home:).

So apart from reminding me that I really should fix the petrol fuel pump, it has thrown up questions on the LPG now.

So the summer service + brakes list has just got longer with extras to investigate:oops:.

Still love it though and didnt swear at it once:D.

Does liquid gas take longer to turn to a gas when it’s cold? And your water been colder and the vaporiser unit not up to temperature could cause the problem.
(Used to get this problem with forklifts,if you pop the bonnet look at the vaporiser and they are normally frozen)

It wasn’t a particularly cold day, I actually had the “AC” flap open a notch;).
Engine was up to operating temps, still wouldn’t start after sitting for 10-20mins, if it was iced up I would have expected it to have defrosted in that time;).
As soon as the tank was full it started:confused:.

It’s parked in the naughty corner now and I took the 322 to the shop today as punishment:p:D:D.

It’s another 1 of them mystery Land Rover strops they have now and again:rolleyes:.

Finally got around to giving the old girl a properly thorough jet wash, snow foam soaking, hand wash, rinse and dry including the whole underside, every nook and cranny and the tilt. Dried off top to bottom, ran engine til warm and dried the brakes running and down the lane. Anyone else found this winter's roads particularly dirty? After 3.5hrs cleaning/drying wrapped back up in cotton wool put the old girl away. Nine minutes later the rain started...:eek:

@marjon, have you thought of pre-warming in the winter months with an electric garage heater [not a condense dripping gas heater]? They work wonders on older cars/Land Rovers, leave on for 20mins in the garage before setting off...may be have a cup of tea/hot chocolate whilst warming up. Turn the key and up they start. I once rescued the wettest most sodden Type35B Bugatti like this - the owner had driven down to Goodwood circuit in atrocious winter conditions with the Bugatti on the back of an open trailer, it could not be started. So out with the garage heater and extension lead in back of car, plug in and turned on for 30-40mins. The car fired up at near first turn of the starting handle ;)

It wasn’t a cold day and had just driven 70kms. So am a little confused as only got 40L of gas in and it started. But I have fuelled before with over 50L:confused:.

Pressure washed it hard, including the engine bay, to get rid of any evidence of oil leaks before the control technique.
Filled the back up with skis and rubbish from the workshop.
Decided I was going to get the temperature gauge working, as with the new fuse box lots of electrical issues have resolved themselves. Realised I had no idea where the temperature sensor was on the engine. Poked round here for a bit, and found a thread that gave me three possible locations for it. Found my wiring loom didn't reach it, so spliced in an extension.
....
and at this point my wife yelled to say the hallway lightswitch was sparking, and could I come fix it. So I have no idea if I now have a working temperature gauge or not.

The house electrics are even older and worse than those lucas cursed ones in the car.
