If you had a normally aspirated 2.5 diesel defender, do you reckon you could run it on pure veggy oil? Or would some additive be required even for this simple engine?

Well shotgun ,i would say no at 100% you would block yer filters plus shag out the injectors and glaze yer pistons also pure vedg can shag seals in older type motors, it would be far better to mix it ,or if you wanna gothe 100% route then convert it to bio and fit a heat exchanger, hope this clears it. . .:)

Apdate for any that are intrested, feel i need to make this bit very clear though, having read the nije thread on running on sump oil , dont even think about it, its true i'm running on 35% mix chip shop oil , but and this is a big butt i,m filtering it too 10 microns and i'm doing a bio reactor and washing all water out of the chip shop oil, never just stick it in yer tank as you will be asking for trouble, pure vedg oil from the shops is ok up to 30% ,the procedures of my own mix i will post after my tests have proved no problems, chips anyone. . . :)
oh forgot ta say running at 35% and no problems seems to run better, little bit of chip shop smell but not that noticable. . .:)

washing water out be buggered! what ever next:eek: :p

Yer really gettin into this arnt yerr ming;)
next you'll be cobbling together a hydrogen generator. nudge nudge!;) :D

Ming, I'm a qualified chemist... I have to admit I'm finding all the layman's speak a bit confusing, with regard to making biodiesel etc. (too many differing opinions as to why things are done)

Do you know any sites that might be of use to me and give methods (with reasoning) for making biodiesel??

Thanks Cash bai but ive gone way beyond that type of mixing [no offence] ive developed my own method of making bio without all the techno blurb, ive kept it simple but with a very pure bio output , however ive put a lot of thought into it [made a few mistakes] and if its a sucsesss will let ya all know the tricks for free , i'm taking the chances however i have some really good contacts from some very clever people that i trust, and so far so good,my production is about 20 ltrs a week, i can double this if all is well. . .

Hmm got me thinkin Mond. . .:) :) :)

Um. . . shotgun when i started this vedg thing it twas for pure intrest so i went on all the sites got in touch with lots of people doing this in lots of varying formats , but most of them didnt have a clue bout motors, and the longer term impact, ya have ta way up the cost /time factor and go for the simple, most of the mixing is far to complex, and not cost effective, heat exchangers can be a nightmare, mixing bio/diesel is the best and cheapest way ta go, but we all have are own opinions. . .:)

FFS Yella i was gettin all deep and ya spoilt it , [snigger], but on a better note yerself and slob have a understanding of diesel mechanics, and that apart from the forum **** take i always admire yer knowledge, best oh luck. . .:)
