Am I right in thinking the transfer box has no impact on the speed at which the torque converter locks up because the box comes after the converter in the overall sequence of transmission?

My converter currently locks at 58/59mph due to the tyre sizes!! I'd love to get it lower. :eek:
 
Torque converter lockup is not something I am an expert on, but basically fitting this case will do the opposite of fitting larger tyres, you're car will be sky high but feel like its on standard tyres.

Was quite weird, as soon as I fitted mine I could tell just reversing out of the workshop at less than 5 mph that the gearing was lower.

You will find that the torque converter will lock up sooner, as far as I can see, I guess it locks when the load is reduced enough for it not to need to slip.

I believe a great upgrade for all autos is to fit a very HD early lockup torque converter, eliminating the sloppy slip that autos are associated with.

Something a pal and I were discussing the other day was what about an auto with a clutch pedal, ie you use the clutch to start/stop the car but then when driving it is auto.

Would this be as economical as a manual but less hassle to drive??

Pah. It would certainly be of interest.

Failing that, a very unforgiving torque converter like griffman has fitted to his 6.3

I believe that sloppy TCs are the bane of auto boxes which give them more of a bad name than they deserve, standard disco 2 auto TC is a ####ing joke!

As far as i know there is no slip in an auto box, so it would be almost like a DSG box.

I wonder if it would work?

I guess you could stall it with a clutched auto, but it would mean it would drive similar to a manual I think.

I don't think it would work TBH does the torque converter create the pressure for the auto to change gear? I know they share oil and so you'd have to blank off the gap plus I think it would be a rougher change as the slip in the torque converter allows the gears to change smoothly ? Just thoughts I'm not 100% how they work ask JM
