as a side note, we have them in the volvos at work. they have a normal clutch,no pedal though. and behind that a fully automatic 12 speed box thats meant to select correct gear everywhere. can use stick in manual to keep revs up off road.
 
you mean its sequential shift auto then like shoguns etc ?

only 5 speed in shogun auto but torque converter seems smarter than discos one

Am I right in thinking the transfer box has no impact on the speed at which the torque converter locks up because the box comes after the converter in the overall sequence of transmission?

My converter currently locks at 58/59mph due to the tyre sizes!! I'd love to get it lower. :eek:


Change your wheels back to std or change the transfer box for a Defender 90 1:1.4 and that lower the lock-up real speed.
 
My transfer box is coming out to be overhauled next week by AW Transmissions.
After reading these last few pages, would it be a wise idea to change to the 1:4 ratio at this point?
Mine is a 300tdi auto.
