Caravan on drive isn't a permanent structure, it's mobile if required to be and as indicated earlier if stripped out with no mains water or sewerage connected it can be referred to as additional storage, could even be a chicken coop for all anyone cares - there's not a lot anybody can do about it if they object, maybe show a little neighbourliness and have some flowers or planters around it, be creative and turn it into a garden feature??

NO it's a shed as unfit for human habitation and it isn't been used as a supplementary room. it's become a garden room or shed. if someone was sleeping in it then it would be ancillary to the main house. I:E an extra bedroom. Have had this argument in Wales with Planning over a friend who had a plot of land and parked a 2berth caravan down there to keep his gardening tools and use it as a potting shed. Planning said it was a caravan he argued sucessfully that it wasn't fit for purpose as a caravan and it's main use was as a shed. Lots of peeps have put Romany caravans in their gardens and had same argument.

Redhand has brought a very interesting twist to this debate. In planning terms the 'use' of the building or structure is what defines what it is. Your friend argued that his use was that of a shed and was accepted. He would need a house on the plot to argue the use is ancillary to the main dwelling. The use that the original poster suggested was that of a room for his kids. that is ancillary to the main house and a caravan is therefore allowed unless the property has had permitted development rights removed.

Blimey three pages .....only wanted somewhere to store the kids in Thought about a summerhouse/big shed but I thought it'd look odd by the side of the house !!

Firstly no idea if our covenant allows caravans or not...gamble I'm willing to take ...given the rest on the estate.

Daughter has slept in the garage for last 14 or so years ....no idea if that was legal or not but because it was out of the way at the back...there's been no problem. ...............so far .

There is a anti social order that can come into play Red. Is a Gray area really in a large housing group. Back garden stands a better chance to be over looked. Where parked in the drive way on blocks is in plain view for all to see.
And if a few neighbors object, It could become a issue. Don't think Neighbors would want it looking like appalachia

Nope, there isn't a grey area. If there is no covenant or anything written in the deeds you can park a caravan anywhere on your own land. People might not like it but that's not your concern ...

Housing associations or housing groups and suchlike under different names, like council owned and rented properties are different 'cos they are normally rented properties so the people are not landowners and only have the rights allowed by the rental agreement, which do often contain such covenants.

Mine is a privately owned estate...

How do you find out about if your estate has a covenant. ..where are your deeds ?

hwoever the solicitors are hwo dealt with the sale or exchange of said estate ..... but you have to employ one to determine the wording :p

is you sure ?
as i still had a fair few years left on mine but still got them

yes, whoever sent them to you has made a serious error there robin.the deeds belong to the mortgage company until the loan has been paid off.;)

when you pay your mortgage off,or finish paying it,then the deeds are given to you.;):D:D

That is a bit different than what is the normal for here. Here you get your deed listing a legal description of property, with all restrictions(if any) and who holds the mortgage. Once paid in full then you get a release of lien and then dead is in your name free and clear. The county seat holds a copy of all deeds and descriptions with the Clerks office in there Deed registry's office

oh well like you say someones fecked up big time then :D

sounds like it.the deeds are the mortgages company's title to the house in case you default on payment.that makes it easier for them to sell it then.
