now its behaving like a range rover lol i got lights up on the dashboard

the ABS and TC are probably linked to each other, how does the traction control work ? does it use the abs pulse count and when it sees one wheel going faster than the others apply the brake on that wheel so as the drive goes to the wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle would seem the logical way for it to work, does the dash display fault codes or do i need to use the obd2 port and see whats going on in fact where is the obd2 port ? ive looked behind the panel thats under the steering wheel and its playing hide and seek

Yes thats pretty much how it works.
But the TC light will stay on until you get up to 5mph (i think) but it goes off when the car moves. if its working of course ;)

No diagnostics on the dash.

RR is not fully OBD2 compliant so you need specific diagnostics, port is where the passengers shins would be in that area.

From someone who was gonna rip out the mechanical bits you seem to be getting concerned about it running like a range rover should🤔 Talking like somebody whos beginning to like it;)

oh for sure im getting to like it, its like driving a comfy arm chair around and i may as well try and fix it before i pull the drive train out as it would be much harder then but probably not necessary as i guess i wont be using the traction control or abs
i have even found myself looking for an auto box with transfer on even a scrap one so as i can bolt it up to one of my spare v8's and use it to to install in the iveco to see if its all going to work fitment wise then if does i can strip mine and if it dosent then i can restore the range rover instead of stripping it, but i cant find a cheap autobox yet but i will
will look for the diagnostics port later today, thank you

well the TC and ABS dident go off at speed so i guess i will have to investigate it ,
in other news i have found a cheap autobox with transfer on it so i can bolt it to one of my blocks and use it to mock and check its all going to fit in ok, so that removes the need to strip the P38 for the moment,

heres a pic of the iveco chassis that i want to re engine

so as you can see the transferbox drops to the left which is what attracted me to the P38 in the first place. but the rear output from the transferbox is not in the centre like the iveco one above its offset same as the front output, now im sure it will work just fine like that, i was trying to find something with centre rear output which is how the chevy set up is through the NP208 transferbox how ever from initially going well acquiring a transferbox it seems FB and ebay are full of scammers theres a shock, , i have 6 different people all saying they have one for sale and can ship it to me from mexico to sacramento only one in the uk who wont let me collect and pay cash, funny that, so the chevy idea is stalling a bit..................... but.... browsing ebay as you do i found this pic

thats range rover l322 transferbox with a left hand front drop and centre rear output perfect.....
so what engine does an l322 use ?, as its a 4.4 l V8 im guessing its a BMW unit, are these reliable how cheap do L l322s come these days ? do you think its a viable option ?
just found one on ebay for £1250 but im a tight git lol

How reliable is an L322 gearbox? @Bemble is the expert there but I would say less reliable than the P38A HP24 one.

i think the L322 idea is just me pondering i dont think im going to trip over one going cheap, well not my sort of cheap lol
ive been and fetched an autobox from a 4.6 P38 i have a 4.6 block and heads under the bench somewhere but no induction for it
if i can find a thor set up i could assemble the drive train all from bits and the p38 would be saved form being dismembered and i could keep it on the road, so amyone selling a thor set up ? must be a few scrap engines about with slipped liners ??
thumbnail - 2023-09-03T112302.467.jpg

and what i think is the speedo drive on the transfer box only has only 2 wires going to it so i guess its just counting pulses, i will remove it and see if there is a reluctor ring in there

ever onward but it might slow for a while as my forklift truck threw a rod unloading the gearbox of my truck, i need to fix this first

Ouch :(

Question…
Looking at the gearbox in the chassis would this mount up to the V8?
If not could you swap the RR bell housing & gearbox up to the adapter to the transfer box.

Would save a lot of work etc.

Hi Phill
well at first i did start off thinking that was a good idea because there would be no need to alter the front and rear propshaft, that is what sent me off down the chevy V8 route as the chevy gearbox will bolt straight up to the transfer box simples a couple of engine mountings and we are in bussiness but but but .......................
look at the pic below of the body im using , the front grill is more or less in line with the front axle centre line
screenshot_834.png

then look at where the iveco bellhousing front face is in the pic below

thumbnail - 2023-08-31T101837.124.jpg

yep its 2" behind the front axle centre line so even with the biggest hammer i can find im not going to compress a V8 engine of any manufacturer into 2" so its under the hood and not 3 feet in front of the vehicle which means the gearbox needs to go back by the length of the engine plus 12" to make it all fit, another reason i want an auto so i dont have to make a gear linkage,
so if im going to move the engine back then the props will need remaking so any benefit from using the existing transfer box just evaporated,
but i like your thinking

this pic probably

shows better how far the gearbox needs to go back, the full length of the engine and rad i imagine

RAVE will show what the wires are.

I'm trying to remember what was under there. The high/low ratio motor has wires. There might also be a sensor to see if it is in high or low. There's a sensor to check gearbox is in neutral but I cannot recall where that is. There's also a gearbox temperature sensor on the auto. The auto obviously also has the selector cable. I don't recall any reluctor rings. Speed for the P38 is taken off the ABS sensors.
