No, pass on the nylon slacks, static shocks not really my thing, I saw loads of CBs, but none took my fancy, then I remembered the CB of my youth and eBay brought this to my attention, only a 900 without the PA or roger bleep but it is very period for a Discovery 1.

Bit servicing today, been a bit lax on that and really needed to get the oil changed and fresh filters on ready for the summer.
Still got the axle oils to change when I get some more EP80~90 and want to change the gearbox fluid and the power steering fluid when I get some more ATF.

Cracked the sump nut off.

Left it for half hour for all the sludge to find it's way out and went off and annealed the copper sump washer as I swore I had a new one in my box of spares, seems not :oops:

I like to 1/3 fill the oil filter and roll it around the paper element inside so it has a fighting chance against the lack of lubrication while the oil circulates one more and get it fitted with a smear of fresh oil around the seal to stop it puckering as you tighten it up.

Drained all the old engine oil into the waste oil barrel.

Then quickly crimped on a new connector onto the oil pressure switch as it has come loose a few times and I figured it might as well be replaced now before I forget.

Then pull the old fuel filter off and dump contents into the waste oil pan to slosh around and break down the old engine oil, smear of diesel on the seal to stop it puckering as you tighten and ready to bleed, just remember to check that the spigot seal has come off when you remove the old filter or the new one won't go on.

Then using the little lever on the lift pump, providing the cam is in the right place of course, pump her full of fuel, the bleed bolt is very similar to a banjo bolt and I like to wind it out a good way and let the hole see daylight when I bleed them, once the fuel is through, tighten the screw up and spin her over into life and let any air purge from the system while it ticks over for a few minutes and service is completed.

Gonna attack the front axle tomorrow, probably fit the QT diff guard while I am faffing around too, fancy a trip to Hayling Hardware, if for no other reason than I like to spend my money on the island and support my local businesses, plus it's nice when I get to go in there and buy them out of oils, done it a couple of times now :cool::D
 
Was going to do diff guards and front axle oils, weathers a bit rubbish as it's drizzling so just going to go buy the oils and get a hair cut now, perhaps it'll clear up this afternoon?

On a side note, was just thinking that I should also get some new anti-mix as I need to do the timing belt soon and on a 200Tdi that involves pulling off the water pump from the front of the timing case and draining the coolant, been in a few years now so probably needs done anyway.
 
Last laning trip out I popped a spring out of the perch, shocks are longer than I thought so thought I had better do something about that before the next adventure.

These were cheap enough on eBay, from Adrenalin 4X4, was a bit gutted that I missed them on my Gwynn Lewis order only days before :( Top bloke Gwynn, awesome parts and workmanship second to none!

Fit them one night this week as loads to do this weekend so try to save some time.

Jesus, have you bought shares in a petrochemicals plant or what?

I'm on target for a seafoam engine treatment and a bottle of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer for the engine and another for the transfer box, they do something for ATF too but that is more for burned clutches, but it might work on the LT77?

considerably cheaper than buying oil from land rover , is all as per spec

oils recommended from ZF and jag owners seeing they have the same gearbox

is it the Dr tranny oil ur looking for, ref ur atf gearbox, ie worn , torque converter

the mannol and ravenol oil does get some very good reports and didn’t fancy skimping on the quality

ATF land rover oil is around £28 per litre

got 10 x litres so i can do a few normal flush and drain, not keen on flushing machines

The Rover/Leyland idea was to use ATF in a manual box for some reason? Very odd but it does work, wish they had used fibrous clutch materials on synchro rings etc, might have lasted longer with the ATF than the usual metal on metal method.

If it were cooling then surely they could have gone 10/40w and pumped through a cooler or heat exchanger linked to the vehicle's cooling system? Could have worked both ways and added warmth to the oil in cold climates?

Never mind, I could do the whole what if's and buts all day and it won't change anything lol.

I saw a very interesting thread on LROi forum years ago about a guy who used a ZF 6S manual box and fitted into his 150 Defender, now that floats my boat! Especially the having 6 gears behind the 200Tdi, not an easy fit from what I remember tho!

I had the chance to recover and salvage a Puma engined Defender a few years back and considered the whole power train with a ??? on the engine, but for sure the MT82 LT230 combo would have been mine cheap enough but I already had too much on and it slipped through my fingers regrettably :(

they did use engine oil in some boxes,and they did start fitting coolers for lt77s with v8s

Wanted to fit a permanent boost gauge and found a proper diesel one that matched the oil pressure gauge.

Bit lighter in the evenings so I guess I will be busy for a few nights this week.

@flat gave me the idea of using a link hose to get the senders a bit higher up out of harms way so I have a conundrum, I have a spare braided steel brake line left over from a kit and think that it might work as the extension pipe but not 100% on compatibility with engine oil?

Might just fit it all up for now and mount it on the bulkhead and see how it goes.

Still got to mount my CB aerial before next landing trip too....
 
I got a specific remote mounting kit from demon tweeks so I could mount the sender remotely.

Wasn’t that expensive, I think I got the 80cm one or something. Will take a photo at the weekend
