i couldnt get my blow torch down towards the nut.. rip...

Your picture @Flossie gave me an idea, to use the flat end on the outer side of all the bolts, then levering/resting it towards the tensioner.

Or will this result in me 100% needing a new tensioner bracket? the roundy fat thing looks sturdy ay?

Im really dumb founded how this viscous fan wont come off. It has soaked in penetrating and rust dissolver fluids for days!

May i just need a more heavier 32mm spanner?? I mean, the one i've got is fairly light. Stupid me buying from fleebay??

Gosh, this fan has been the hardest problem i've faced on this range rover, and it is quite making me mad now that it slowly is crawling winter time

I tried with an adjustable already, a fairly heavy one, but as someone said it just absorbs the shock i guess? as it just adjust itself out abit?

I ain't got a welder so can't weld it shut either, but gosh that would fit great.

I obviously want to fix it up fast and drive it :p Gotta have it easy in the winter o_O

I bent the cheapo thing I got off eBay the first time I did mine. Like yours it was a total and utter barsteward. When I put it back on I put plenty of coppaslip and just nipped it up. No issues since.

Of course, that isn't helping you. I wonder if you removed the slam panel, intercooler and radiator if you could get access through the front and have more room to have a proper go at it?

Use your new pump as a guide to making the tool.
I put masking tape over the pump flange, rubbed it firmly then removed it to give a template with hole positions.

why didnt i think about this????? im gonna mark tommorow. Currently struggling to get the drill to chew metal.... Only got 1 hole done, the other one is stubborn, tried to drill on both sides. No good yet.
Gonna buy new drill bits.

Great with new problems and issues, grows my tool box. o_O sad for my wallet tho as im into milwaukee

Must'tn the radiator slide rigth up tho? Since i've got some blue valve/taps at the bottom of the radiator, and they interfere with the viscous fan so i am unable to drag it straigth up.

I also used a saw and cutted of some excess on the spanner, i am making it as flossies tool, holding 2 bolts. 1 more round with the saw and 1 more round with a proper drill bit and it should indeed be good to go!

I've actually smashed the wrench so hard, the waterpump began leaking :D but it obviously were really bad from before, squeeking as heeeeeeck.

Can't wait to be done with this problem

But yes, removing the radiator would be fine for me, as i need to remove my intercooler anyhow to flush out the oil!

Is it ok to take the rad out with its current liquid? I don't rly want to drain it, gotta get more coolant then

I will also aqquire a miniature gas torch, to get down to the nut... Like one of thoose you use on desserts :D

Wonderin if you’d get more heat on nut using electric heat gun off Amazon (20 quid) 600 deg C and most have a nozzle to fit end of a metal tube (wardrobe hanging rail, she’ll never know) then heat can be delivered directly on to nut down the tube. Also can you get to pulley from underneath wi a block o wood? Then hyd jack the wood block up so it puts pressure on pulley to stop it movin. V notch in wood for pulley to sit in.

Oil filter strap wrench to hold the pulley perhaps?

wouldnt it just slip just as the belt on the pulley does? I can try this suggestion as i have this tool at home.

Regarding the wood block @Stufer i could probably try this aswell. But would this not put a scary amount of pressure on the waterpump bolts?

You've got nothing to loose by trying.;)

i suppose i MUST need to smack the wrench? Or could i potentionally do it by just holding it with the oil filter tool and use all my hand powah?
I am going to the tool shop today so ill get a small torch, see what they have and find the most hefty 32mm spanner :) if not, new drill bits has already been bought and i will complete the custom tool..

Would need care not to overdo it (like lift the car, lol) as the bolt threads would damage, but possibly just another way to help jam the pulley. The lump hammer on’t spanner, should fly off :p

:D

The rad has a drain undeneath at the bottom. Mine's the manual so I have the oil going through the bottom of it but those connections can be undone easily enough (with 2 spanners or the brass shears off!). Cannot recall what the auto looks like. Intercooler comes out if you unbolt the power steering reservoir and use a bit of jiggling. You'll have to unclip the shroud at the top and then lift and jiggle to get its pegs out the hokes at the bottom. The top of the v8 shroud unclups but clearly that was too convenient for the oil burners - probably thought they'd never go wrong.

I got the intercooler out. Broke my power steering bracket bolt but ehh ill zip tie it when im done.

Gosh even the ac tensioner bolt was a fekker to me  So hard to get off that ac tension bolt.. found some play in the pulley and also my compressor has a grinding sound turning it around..

Did not get the rad out

So not quite enough room yet to get a run at it with a sledge hammer then :p

Not being much help am I

I wish you'd sort it as I woke up last night worrying about it

I tried the jack and wood block btw, didn't fit due to some cooler pipes or smth..

radiator definetly wont go off without the viscous, as the radiator has 2 metal stick outs, you know where they seat.

You are helpful, as im out of ideas.

I did atleast get the ac belt off.. (needs re'newing as its quite old.

I used heat on it today. It did not bulge. Im not gonna lie but i think i will just saw it off now. Does anyone know off a small saw i can get down there to chop off the water pump (before viscous nut) ?

OR does anyone know how far the waterpump sticks in? Is it perhaps doable to undo the waterpump, and just draw the whole shabang out? Because i am able to angle my rad about 25-30 degrees outwards. My rad is loosened, but won't simply lift up, or any tactics.. as the metal brackets are in the way.

Just look at your new pump, should give you a good idea

I had a look the other night as i was going to suggest taking the pump out with the fan on but the drive belt pulley makes it nigh on impossible to get to the bolts:(

Remove the slam panel.
Remove the intercooler, steering pump réservoir and screen wash neck from the rad guides.
Cut the center gearbox cooler adapter on the bottom of the rad off and the radiator will just come out past the fan and shroud.
Then unbolt the water pump with the fan on it, un bolt the pulley and cut the pump just between the pulley face and water pump body.
Put the pulley face in a vice and swing like funk on the fan nut with your chosen wrench. It'll come off.
We just did this to a 2001 diesel which believe it or not had a bmw plastic impeller pump from god knows when on it..
It was not coming off in the engine bay but was dragged out kicking and screaming!!!!

ive done everything up till the Center gearbox cooler adapter.
Is this the thing sticking out with blue protective casings?
