Undo the knurled nut on the top cooland hose, used to bleed the system, then rev the engine up. If you get a nice big water spout, you can bet your ass the water pump is making pressure. Sticking the stat in a bucket of hot water wont test anthing, as it has an opening pressure as well as a temperature.
The only thing that moves with pressure is the bypass valve?

You don't say if you checked your vehicles viscous fan was fully functioning, so we have to assume you did.
There are only three failures the pump can have, a leaking indicated by a drips from the weep hole, a faulty impeller shaft bearing, an a broken impeller which has be mentioned in forum sometimes.
But you have now replaced the pump.
LR like other vehicle manufacturers use various pump manufacturers to supply the pumps, the same for a lot of other parts that are required, its the only way they can keep up with the parts for the numbers of their vehicles dropping of the assembly line every day.
So as long it listed as original equipment manufacturer OEM it will okay so it will fit exactly not how long it’s function will last, the water pump fitted to my disco lasted only 40,000 mile, so much for quality LR branded parts.
