2014 Defender 90 XS SW.
2,400 miles and in new condition, no rust whatsoever not even surface rust on the bolts under the rear wheel arches or chassis.

Possible business purchase.

Worth the money? It'd be £400 per month for five years plus our pristine (but 118,000 mile) 2003 CSW.

Were the later TDCi SW's cheaper to tax as in £220?

My last van a Transit Connect cost £200 x 48 with a £6,000 deposit and after six years and 80,000 miles it sold for £4,000.

I expect the Defender if looked after may be worth 50% of the purchase price after six years even on 70-80,000 miles? The dealer also has a 78,000 mile 2003 CSW TD5 up at £15,995!

3 years ago I paid 25.5k for an 11 month old 90xs with 4.5k on the clock and in pristine condition. Dealers are now, 3 years later still asking the same price and in some cases quite a bit more for the same year. At the time I saved about 7k on the then new price (8+k if you take account of the fitted extras). Recently, second hand prices for late models are at least the original new price. I think £35k was the new price for 2014 (or very near) so the dealers asking price is consistent with current supply and demand. I think that in a few years time prices of late models might fall a bit but not much as fleet owners send their stock to the auctions. But privately owned and pristine, well loved models will continue to attract top dollar and not suffer anywhere near the depreciation of an ordinary car. A dealer can of course ask for more than a private seller as they can offer finance and warranties. If I was you I would shop around a bit and see if one could be bought for less than £35k.

Either that, or they want one so badly that they are prepared to pay whatever the stealer wants to charge them on credit!

I know a guy who bought the last Defender the local LR showroom had. It had been used for testdriving - other than that it was new. He took it to have some mods done 2 weeks after getting it and the garage offered him £7.5k more than he'd paid for it.

Not sure what they are worth.
I like mine because of its ridiculousness.
Its not comfy, the ride is hard. It needs constant maintenance and the design is useless. Its heavy on fuel and prone to rot. I have to nurse it every inch when driving and it leaks. There is little security and no mod cons. However it was cheap. The parts are cheap and its easy to work on.
They are also fast becoming uncool. Probably due to the nobs that are the only ones who can now afford them. They seem to want them all to be 'modded' with rows of spotlights and silly stick on plastic bits. Shame really.

Yes it is, l've got a 2005 110 CSW as well. Good ones fetch the money but most newcomers to Defender ownership want a 90.

If you truly write the cost off against a business then why not, better than letting the tax man have the money?
Depreciate the assett aver the finance period and then sell it to your partner/mate for peanuts but obviously keep it yourself.

Well, that was the idea. But people are saying that the price is too high and it's not worth it.

Yes a lot of people are saying its not worth it. What I am saying is the asking price looks to be the going rate (subject to a bit of shopping around). You can't get a brand new one anymore but you can get the next best thing - low milage and as new. Depreciation is low / currently prices are increasing. If you want one now is the time.

Looks like I need to make a correction to my previous post. You CAN still get a new / delivery mileage 90, there are a few on fleabay. But - they are asking really stupid money for them. Makes £35k look like pocket money

Prices are currently increasing because production has recently ceased. Surely an unsustainable situation which would make now exactly the wrong time?
