when i turn the ignition on the headlights come on with the light switch turned off .
i have to turn the switch to side lights to take the main beam off and drive all day with side lights on

and i have a bong sound , dash is saying eas manual [i dont have air suspention its on coil springs]

other warnings are sunroof not set and rear left window not set

any help would be good

As far as the electrical gremlins go, first thing to do is check the under bonnet fuse box for signs of or smell of burning, with lid off. Pull a relay or two and have a look. It's not uncommon for the fuse box to give faults from this and would need replacement, but you have to be careful you get the right one for your motor. Do a search on here for more info. Let us know what you find.

If your lighting problem has suddenly started then it could be the fusebox as above but with the headlights being controlled by the BECM I'd also be looking for any dampness/corrosion around this.
I'm trying to imagine how it could be the light switch but . . . .

As for the bong and EAS warning this is normally left when the bags are removed but the ECU is still in play. There are a couple of cures for this, the simplest being to connect two wires from the ECU together. I just can't remember the numbers right now, I'll leave you to do the search.

Windows and sunroof not set are usually cured by fully cycling them and holding the switch for a couple of seconds at each end of the travel.

When you get a cluster of electrical faults it's always a good idea to get your battery and alternator checked. These cars don't like low voltage.

EAS Manual means you have pressed the Inhibit Switch while in Access Mode...which locks it in Access Mode for Crawling in Low Height Areas such as car parks...until you go above X mph when it will rise again....tis in the Hand Book :D

i dont know if the lights have been like this from when i got its the 1st time i went out in dark and noticed that

the other warnings started when i changed the oil .
could the suspention be any thing to do with it going on the ramps

thanks fr all the help

The suspension message is because it is on coils and the BeCM is being 'fooled' by a bridge link in the EAS ECU Plug connection to stop it bonging and flashing up the 35mph speed warning due to a failed EAS system.....

its back to normal now i set the windows
eas as sorted it self i think it was a battery lead that was loose
only thing to sort now is the light thing
i can put ignition on no probs
but as soon as i start the rr head lights and rear side lights come on i have to turn the light switch to side light so i dont drive with main beam on all day ???

I'd say if you can get away with sidelights on leave it for now,get used to car's reliability and how its behaving nothing wrong with driving with side lights on Volvo's do it !

Once your familiar with your car and all is ok if it still bugs you,it's going to cost you about 160 for a new fuse box or 200 for becm repair unless you want to buy a unknown second hand fuse box :)

Except, if the BECM is full of condensation it will eventually self destruct. NEVER ignore faults on a P38, it will cost you dear.

Nothing wrong at having a poke would of though condensation would take out more , probably a stuck relay . Two hundred pounds or live with sidelights mmmm I'd save me money :)

As the main beam can be turned off by selecting sidelights and headlights are switched by MOSFETS explain how it can be a stuck relay?
Ignoring electronic problems will always cost more in the long run, some are not smart enough to realise that.
