Series 1's yea I can see they should be left alone but back in the 60's everyone was cutting them up as everyone is now cutting up Disco's in some years to come believe it or not people will cry over Disco's some are already crying over older 4 door RRC's ones we used to buy and sell for £50 and a beer

most had common sense then

yeah, dont stick yer hands in the moving parts...

My dads old workshop had a belt driven machine room, circular saw, bench plane, lathe, and a friggin big band saw. no guards on owt, bit o mesh round the belt if you had to stand close to it, but nowt much.
Kinda stuff you see in them Mooseums now

I was using them as soon as I was old enough to reach properly, and to this day I remember me dads wise words, "it dunt matter if it wood or yer 'and, itll still cut it!"

and its not that long ago (ok 20yrs)

It doesnt say what state it was in before it was modified, perhaps it was a wreck.

The old series models are only revered as they became rare, anyway, I thought the beauty of these were the meccanno nature of them. If it bothers the OP so much then buy it and restore it.
