Which jack (again!) and where are my jacking points?

ah... the only thing under the mid row seats is supposedly the roof rack. It's in a long black bag and I've not looked inside it yet. Maybe the handle will be in the bag with them!

Yeah that's it.

As for the jack in the engine bay, in front of what is now a K&N cone-shaped air filter is a battery. There is also a battery on the left-hand side of the engine bay too. Presumably two batteries isn't standard, so which side would the original one have been on? and would the bottle jack have been stored where my second battery is now?

Chances are the 2nd battery is where your jack would have been (N/S front of engine bay?). I'm presuming the 2nd battery is for the winch?

Anyway... so a high-lift jack is not for changing wheels at home and it's not for changing wheels at the side of the road. What, therefore is suitable for these situations? Should I pick up a standard Land Rover bottle jack?

Good for most situations, have a piece of wood in car to place under jack if being used in muddy places (stops it sinking).

OK... so one person says look under the near-side battery, and another person says the battery takes its place... i guess i'll just have to look! :D

OK, so I should look underneath the battery on the passenger's side of the engine bay, in front of the air intake... why on earth would they mount it so low inside the engine bay? Making it accessible would have been more sensible, perhaps.

I appreciate that the second battery isn't standard, but with a gap that large above the jack, people are bound to put something there!

Anyway, i guess i'll have a look in the morning. It's rather dark out there now...

If ye were that curious ye'd use a torch:rolleyes::p:p:D

right - the second battery takes the place of the jack in that case!

I do, however have a two-part red jack handle (when both parts joined together it forms a 4-5ft long pole with a bend end.

So, assuming this is the correct handle, how much do you want for one of your other spare jack? and where would I have to collect from??

plus, how much would you want for one, barmatt?

or should I buy new to be safe? they're only between £10 and £20 from places like screwfix... whether they're suitable though remains to be seen (or read here on this forum!)

Sorry bud nathan's got dibs on one and I'm gonna keep the other as a spare.

that's fair enough!

should i just buy one with enough travel, from screwfix, for example?

If so, a couple of questions... what weight should I go for? I'm guessing a 2-ton one would be fine because it'll only ever pick up one quarter of the Landy or so at a time.

Also, is the 1-2 inch diameter circular, flat top of the jack fine for jacking up a Land Rover, or does it need some other kind of top on it?

lol, first of all most of the piffle in this thread isn't actually me! :D

secondly, i've owned a land rover for all of 4 days now and therefore know nothing!

I'll learn over time, but for the moment, i'd rather not buy a round, flat topped 2-ton jack assuming "it'll be fine" only to find I need a special land rover top and should really use a 5-ton jack for whatever reason!

I'm sure you appreciate that we were all clueless once upon a time :D
