Thanks for the replies, could you give us some idea of the prices you have paid for each system? is the FCR £200? Just trying to find a balance here between price and what it does

FCR reads and clears faults nothing else and is locked to your car. If you want to know what Nanocom Evolution does do a search for Nanocom web site then look through downloads section there are comprehensive instructions about it there. It does quite a lot of stuff. But not as much as MSV2. But damb near. And it's not locked to just one car.

Description: P38 Range Rover Single Vehicle kit with NANO Vehicle Server
Price: EUR €497.00 (excl. VAT)
EUR €581.49 (incl. VAT)
Quantity:

This item is a kit, comprising of a Nano Vehicle Server, all other required Hardware and a Single Vehicle (By VIN) software license to completely cover all systems with built in diagnostic capability on any variant of P38 Range Rover (1995 to 2002) to the most complete capability we can provide.

This SV125 Kit includes the following:

HW016 Faultmate MSV-2 NANO Vehicle Server with built in VCI 1
LD032 Serial Connection Lead (Null Modem)
LD027 Black OBDII Lead
MP015 Range Rover (P38) Software Pack

Should any further accessories be required such as a USB to serial converter (as many new PCs do not have serial ports) power supplies, extension leads etc, these can be found in the general accessories section along with a very attractively priced selection of PC hardware, including used Panasonic rugged laptops.

Click here to download a PDF document that lists software modules applicable to this vehicle model range and gives more information on the degree of coverage.

Note, that is not the same as a Nanocom and it will not operate stand alone, it requires a laptop, you need the Extreme version of the MSV to have stand alone capability.

Another vote for the Nanocom, around £400 for multi vehicle (but locked to vehicle type - so in my case, diesel P38s). I really like the fact it is compact, so can be kept in the car all the time. Has managed to do everything I've wanted so far. Only negative is that the P38 software is new and there have been a few issues, but quickly acknowledged and fixed by BBS in a firmware update so no complaints really.

I don't think there is a cheaper unit that is actually worth buying - the key is getting the data you need to do effective diagnostics, which means comprehensive input and output data. For example, I fixed my HEVAC by observing the core temp sensor going out of range intermittently.

It was seeing Keith's Faultmate that sold me on the idea of getting my own diagnostic tool, my decision to go Nanocom rather than Faultmate was down to (a) price and (b) compactness of the device itself*.

HTH

Cheers

Jerry
* I discovered with my Subaru Legacy that all of the tools are equally rubbish if they are in the garage at home when you and the car are 1,000km away with a problem to solve ...... ;-)

My neighbor & 24 others on a disco site each bought a nanocom for £260 delivered to their door, huge group buy discount.
It was last week middle of March so if there's enough of us needing one it's possible at much better price.

Tried it on my Range Rover but of course need the unlock code to communicate

ok, let me see if i have the correct items now.

sorry about the length guys.

so would you recommend 1 of them over the MSV2?

also noticed your from Walsall, my home town and where i'll be moving back to in November :)

Well, welcome back to sunny Walsall. It'll be good to have fellow Rangie local.

I would have loved a faultmate msv2 but not enough funds, so settled for Nano Evo2.. It does everything you want except re-program/unlock becm. You can't hook upto PC but at least it's standalone & not bulky & can slip in glove box. It will let you write setting to Becm, e.g. set fog light fitted, disable alarm etc. If you have an unlocked Becm then you can see & change Fob codes etc.

I'm pleased with mine although I'm not sure I've mastered it all yet.

There are a few pics on my gallery but not sure how I link to it yet - take a look :)

Yes it can re-sync. You can enter the code or tell it to learn code; I believe.

I just found this in manual:-

Immobilization Code

The immobilization code is stored in both the engine management and BECM ECU's. If a valid code is
received from the engine ECU compared to the one in the BECM when the key is turned, the engine will
start. If the Engine ecu, the BECM or the LOCKSET in the vehicle are replaced then the 2 codes will not
match and the engine will not start. It will then become neccessary to synchronise the two codes between
BECM and engine ecu. For the EDC and Motronic systems you need to open the engine ecu settings page
and make a note of the code displayed (EDC - EMS CODE) (MOTRONIC - IMMOBILISATION CODE). Then
open the BECM settings page and place this number in the IMMOBILISATION CODE box and click Write
settings. For GEMS ecu any number between 0 and 65535 can be input into the IMMOBILISATION CODE
box in the BECM, Click on Write settings and then go to GEMS - OTHER and SECURITY LEARN MODE to force
the code from the BECM to the GEMS ecu. A valid number for GEMS is between 0 and 65535.

I got my FCR in a group buy on this very site nearly 2 years ago saved quite a bit, but Colin the owner of BBS got so much s@@@ off certain lets be polite "gentlemen members" of this site that he no longer frequents it or recognizes it for automatic 10% discount.
:hurt:

Saying that he did me a sweet deal on my nanocom .

I read Colin's comments on another forum regarding discount & features:-

.........But we do still offer an established forum member discount of 10% on this board for which i note you qualify ******

http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/downloads/terms_&_conditions/rangeroversnet.pdf

The end result being below 300 GBP for those that qualify.

This gets you the new Nanocom Evolution 2 unit itself, a USB to PC connectivity lead for upgrading it etc, the requisite OBDII lead, which is fully molded both ends and two unlock codes to enable full non VIN locked coverage of your chosen Engine Management system and full non VIN Locked coverage of every other system fitted on any year or model of P38. Of course this can be cheaply expanded by adding the other two Engine Management Possibilities to make a full any P38, any system solution.

The functionality and capability in each and every system is exactly as per our well renowned and respected MSV-2 system, which is well known for going well beyond what TestBook/ T4 provides with the sole exceptions of Motronic ECU Re flashing and direct fob code changing, which only requires us to do a translation to be achieved anyway.

The code for the P38 Systems and all the functions and capability on the Nanocom Evolution was of course derived from that of the MSV-2, which has long since been tried, tested and tweaked to perfection, meaning that mostly things will be right from the start, however it is possible that odd things may have been lost in translation or may not work exactly as they should on the new platform and although we have done extensive testing and are employing Beta testers to help identify anything that may need further tweaking, we honestly cannot yet guarantee you won't find the odd problem in the more obscure functions that we would be more than happy to hear about as we are very motivated to get this absolutely 100% right in the shortest possible time.

But ultimately this really is an awful lot of capability and coverage for the money in such a desirable hardware form, and so is the system so many P38 owners have probably dreamed of having available to them.

Due to demand, we expect to introduce this on our web shop before the end of this week.

Well, welcome back to sunny Walsall. It'll be good to have fellow Rangie local.

thank you :) i'll be there in May/June looking for a P38 and a home lol. had 5 years away and now coming back with the wife and kid. gonna miss the price of fuel though :(

where in Walsall are you?

Not far from Arboretum (Melish Road End)...

Fancy wanting to come back here.....

Shops borded up ........., fuel high......, bla bla bla.

No it's ok, really!. It's quiet where I live - that was until I moved here with kids. When we put decorations on house xmas the whole retired street tuts.

Where you looking to move to?

Where you looking to move to?

i know that area VERY WELL! my old man used to have a garage down Lower Forster Street, Allens Autos, for many years. until an accident ended his working life.

we were hoping of moving to the New Invention or Bloxwich. i grew up in he Vention and my family live in Bloxwich now.

and yes, they do moan a bit at the Xmas decs being a bit bright LOL. just tell em to go to the Blakenall, then they can have a real shock :)

and just to **** you off, fuel here is only 3p a litre! thats the bad part about leaving. the good parts far outway them. dictatorship, high prices on things, no importation, no food in shops, robbed at gun point on the highways or streets. kidnapped because you own a 4x4. i did another post about the price of cars here, a 2009 was £165,000.00! and an 81 with bits missing was just over £15,000. :)

well, after much thought, i have decided to go with the nanocom. ok it might be almost £400, but i think it will give me peace of mind knowing i can test 95% of things on the car.

once i know which model i will be buying, i will order the matching kit. :)

Flipping Heck sas1810, Blakenhall sounds a breeze then from where you are now. Although... a mate of mine had accident in Goscote; as the firemen cut him from the van, the kids & pikeys all over it trying to rob tools. Mate says to police do something ..... they only interested in his well being. In end refused help until his brother come & fooked em off. :mil10:
:mil95:
:mil68:
Can't believe the fuel either

I used to live not far from Blakenhall, then Moseley Est. So think of you as already a local lad.

Anyway, sorry to nick THREAD! The Nanocom Evolution great, Ordered on Wednesday, got by Friday. Courier Tracked from Cyprus, set account up 18:30 & got unlock code. Was out in car toll 10pm playing. So excellent service from BBS
