I recently did all the required reading into what's hot and what's not and reached the conclusion that for a DIY mechanic like me, a Disco 1 would be better for the mum in law (short version, I dont drive but me and my lady live with her, she wants a decent offroader - disco 1)

Reasons being: it has to be diesel, from what I can find out the older engines are a lot better. Rust isn't such an issue when the vehicle is easy to work on and cheap to begin with... less toys makes for an easier build/rebuild and the wealth of cheap parts is beyond measure :)
From what I have read there are far more horror stories of the TD5 engine going terminal than the 200 or 300 so Disco 1 is the winner ;)

On the other hand, money no object, quite fancy a D4 with all the trimmings, or a D3 G4 event vehicle, or maybe a DII V8 G4 event vehicle

My in-laws had a 96 V8i manual disco think it was a GS or something of the like, great car, lovely to drive. Then they decided to put it through the scrappage scheme on 60000miles rot free. Still haven't forgiven them, especially as my wife is wanting one again. That would make it Landy No.4 in the household.

there is one nissan micra that got lost, lol, 1100 miles t reg under a dust sheet safe, you need sun glasses to look at it, dog cock red and what a shine!!

I went to a local breakers with my bro for some bits and there was a stunning MGC sat in the yard, turns out that was for scrapping, I couldn't believe it! The thing was immaculate!
