I recently did all the required reading into what's hot and what's not and reached the conclusion that for a DIY mechanic like me, a Disco 1 would be better for the mum in law (short version, I dont drive but me and my lady live with her, she wants a decent offroader - disco 1)
Reasons being: it has to be diesel, from what I can find out the older engines are a lot better. Rust isn't such an issue when the vehicle is easy to work on and cheap to begin with... less toys makes for an easier build/rebuild and the wealth of cheap parts is beyond measure
From what I have read there are far more horror stories of the TD5 engine going terminal than the 200 or 300 so Disco 1 is the winner
