When the prototypes of the Discovery 1 were first seen on the road the pundits declared it a lemon that would not sell, and was to be the end of Land Rover. It went on to be the best selling 4x4. Ditto the first Freelander. Both very successful in their respective markets. I suspect Land Rover know what they can sell, and equally important will be allowed to sell by the bureaucrats. But this ever more complicated trend is not just Land Rover, it effects all car makers, because that is what new car buyers demand. Indeed not just cars. I can remember when I could mend my own television, buying circuit details and parts from a magazine advert. But now I notice my new vacuum cleaner is specifically designed so I can not mend it. And my son can not understand why I should want to mend my own car. Its the future, even if we don't like it.
