According to this month's Land Rover Monthly magazine, the 18" steel wheels from the new Defender will fit straight on to Discovery 2 axles.

This could be good, as these wheels are being offered on Ebay at £5-600 for five, brand new take-off with tyres.

The tyres alone are £180 to buy. And the wheels are £400 each from Land Rover.

Owners of new Defenders remove the wheels to fit alloys.

These wheels were fitted to the base Commercial variant but that model has now been discontinued and the cheapest version now comes with alloys.

So the supply of new steel wheels being sold will likely dry up over time.

Surprised at the lack of interest. l would have thought a supply of brand new off-road wheels and tyres at bargain prices would have had Discovery 2 owners queuing up.

Do you know how the wheel offset compares the Disco 2 57mm ?
As you say, could be useful wheels. I assume the centre spigot is probably larger than the D2 - same as D3, D4 & RR wheels - requiring spigot rings to help centralise them & take some of the load off the wheel nuts

Correct, same bore size as the D3 etc so spigot rings and new wheel nuts needed to fit them to a D2.

Then the article in LRM is incorrect?

The 19 tyres fit straight on the D3 alloy rims, clearance is tight but clear they do.
Done a few k on them now, taller sidewalls means no need to avoid potholes.

Most steel wheels use cone faced nuts - so will self centre - so spigot rings shouldn't be needed - contrary to what I was thinking in my earlier comment.
To add some potentially useful info, the L663 steel wheels have an offset of 42 mm & rim width of 8" so will have a 15mm wider stance per side than the standard D2 wheels (57mm offset)- explaining the LRM article comment about the tyres having a clearance with the front radius arms at full lock - despite the relatively large tyre diameter with the L663 255/70 x 18 tyres.

I know elsewhere there's been discussion about the potentially also useful nut covers for the L663 steel wheels (Part No. LR130610), because I thinks they can also be used on the standard D216" steel wheels

Well, l've got both the wheels/tyres and nut covers for sale in the "for sale" section of this forum if anyone fancies a set.

All brand new "take off"
