I was down in cornwall on a weekend break. Whilst down there one of my hand brake back plates on my Range rover decided to rust through and drop both springs and shoe retainers into the bottom of the drum. That made a hell off a racket scraping round in there.
I took the wheel off but I didn't have enough tools with me to get the brake calliper and drum off. So a bit of fishing around through the adjuster hole I got all of the bits out. I put the retainers back in without springs and put a couple of tie wraps over the backs of them to stop them pulling back through the rusted hole. That repair lasted a week until I got round to repairing it.
 
One of my old bikes had a push / pull throttle cable arrangement, the 'pull' cable snapped so I ended up swapping cables around to get me home but it meant that the throttle control was reversed - that was an interesting ride!!
Hehehe I've done that one too. Drove about 50 miles in the ****ing rain with no wipers a few months back.
 
Over heating 200tdi Def just below Madrid on our way to Morocco due to new F-off winch bumper restricting radiator. Blocked the visco fan with self tapping screws, got us there and back :)

Wagon rachet straps to hold back axle in place after ripping rear cross member off that holds the A-bar whilst off roading ! Was a memorable trip home on the motorway :)
 
Cable tie over the ball and socket gearlinkage on the montego, it was just ****e that car

Dad had an estate version and went through 3 drivers doors and a tailgate through rust, remember one afternoon he spent 20 mins slamming the boot down to get it to shut because the lock kept moving as it had rotted through

Throttle cable on a minibus snapped 10 miles into a 450 mile journey, so para-cord from the linkage, through the drivers window as a hand throttle, horrible journey.
 
Rear trailing arm on a fourtrak rusted through just over 3 months after passing an mot and 2 days after I bought it ratchet strap got me home to replace, then a week latter chassis snapped and took out brake line to the rear limped home on front brakes and sold for spares.
 
I lost the electric fuel pump on my '66 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 miles off a paved road. Since I'm a redneck slob, I had plenty of material to work in the back of the truck. I used a 32 oz. honey can, a plastic baggie, a hair tie, some wire and, yes, chewing gum to make a gravity fed fuel pump.

The electric pump was mounted a crazy distance from the engine, so I had a lot of fuel line to play with. I poked a hole in the bottom of the tin and inserted the fuel line into it and sealed it with gum. I then wired the tin to my windscreen wiper blade. The fuel line passed through the air vent to the carb. The truck had duel fuel tanks and I removed one of the lines to fill a Thermos cup with petrol. I filled the honey tin with gas and covered the the top of the tin with the plastic bag and secured it with the hair tie. I hoped that this would slow the fuel flow.

It worked. I got about 3 miles per honey tin on the way home
 
Old K Reg Mini 850 in 1980's. Driving with new girl friend trying to impress her. Had to stop half way up hill. Lift bonnet and blow out the fire on the voltage regulator. Then carry on nice and cool like
 
Hah!

Same Mini in the very cold winter of 81-82 (-20c). Drove to North Wales and screen washer bottle froze up. Pi**ed in it to get it going and to be able to see through windscreen. Wiper mechanisms corroded and jammed up two weeks later
 
I did Scotland to Ely in a Yugo 55 with a snapped clutch cable. I waited until late at night so I could make it back & had to match the revs for gear changes. Everyone probably thought it was normal for a Yugo to go that slow when I was driving up to red lights

Mk2 vw golf. Clutch cable snapped during a hill start on a steep hill in knaphill, Surrey.
I was head of the queue at a red light, clutch up, cable snapped and stalled. Tried starting it with it in 1st but was not having it and keep stalling. So squashed a coke can sideways and poked a hole in each end, stripped apart clutch cable and used a couple zip ties to use coke can to bridge the break (at box end). Just about lasted to get me up the hill then i matched revs for the couple miles till home

Yeah anchor hill, I was first in the queue at the lights coming up the hi from Woking direction, was a kid week morning after a night shift at Goldsworthy park waitrose lol

I used to live in Bisley.

I was once sat at the crossroads by the plough (I think?) pub just before the a322 only to watch a vw camper come careening across and drive into the pub.

Thank god it was not open at the time.

I used to drink in the anchor and get me Chinese from the canton place nearby.
