Hi guys,

I have come across a nice looking hippo for a very good price, the downside is that the price is reflective of it 160K miles!
Good thing is, it is a 2.0 XEDi model.

I have spoken to the owner who says it has a FSH, he remembers it having some rear bushes done last summer (probably diff bushes?) and says it is over due its 3rd Cam belt change.

What is the usual cost of a cambelt change on these? I have a mate in the trade, though he specialises in VW/Audi, so may not want to do it as I understand it is quite involved on this vehicle.

Anything else I should specifically look for? Should i leave it alone?

Any help appreciated!

LR quote about 8 hours or something like that to do a timing belt on a XEDI! But others seem to do it as little as just over an hour! Seems to be about £300 is the average cost when I was looking.

Plus points are: 1) Tinytdi and I are both running Xedi's with about the same mileage with to date no major(expensive) probs
2) should the lump go bang big time, find a rover 420/820 diesel with lower mileage and knackered bodywork for peanuts and you have a donor lump. Hell of a lot cheaper than a lump from LR anyway.

I'd check all electrickery, particularly windows, sunroof, central locking etc, plus all normal Hippoo faults, and you should be alright.....maybe. It is a hipoooo afterall......:p

Naaaah, buy it just to have more miles than Tiny....Only joking Tiny..:p
