Hi guys, hope someone can suggest a solution.

Im trying to get the head off my 200tdi in a 90.

im struggling to get the exhaust manifold off due to the down pipe.

I can't remove the downpipe bracket which attaches to the crank case because:
1 one of the allen bolt heads has already been chewed(these bolts bolt the downpipe to a bracket).
2 i can't get a spanner on to the other bolts that attach the bracket to the crankcase.

I have managed to get the turbo off the manifold and the down pipe.

So my options now as i see them are:

1 Attempt to take off the head with both manifold attached.

or
2 remove the NSF engine mount in order to gain access to the down pipe crankcase bracket which will allow me to remove the manifold before the head.(access to this engine mount is a barstool!!)

Please, any input would be much appreciated.

at some point you are going to have to remove the front pipe to change it when rotten, so i personally would be attacking the bolt to make future work easier.LEE

Time to get some new tools me thinks. If you have a landy you will sure as hell be glad you have some rounded nut/bolt extractors. They do work on allen key bolts too. I use the snap-on version but check out the ebay link to see what they are. You should be able to get a set at a tool shop local to yourself. There are cheaper sets on ebay if you are short on cash.

Thanks for the input so far.

Turbo is off the manifold.

I think il probably get the engine mount off then take the bracket off the block, while off i can replace the knackered allen bolt.

The nut for the bracket is so crammed in i cant get a spanner in and turn it.
