Had my D2 since may and I've tried everything to get rid of the stench...previous owner had two dogs! Its a million times better but still not 'fresh' smelling. Does anyone have any ideas?

What I've tried/done so far:
1. Bought steam cleaner and cleaned inside all over
2. Dettoled the whole interior
3. Had it professionally valeted
4. Ozone cleaned
5. Tried 5 different types of freshener
6. Took the rear trim/speakers apart which were covered in dust and stuff

It seems as though the rear carpet is the dodgiest...short of ripping it all out what else could I try?

Still doesn't smell fresh and there is a stale like odour - my gf hates the smell and avoids going in the car...hence i always take the Skoda when we go somewhere together.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the manual?

I quite enjoy the smell of my Land Rover. In fact I have a spare bit of fuel filler hose in the front room that has a lovely Land Rovery smell. I go in there and sniff it occasionally. I worry that recreational Land Rover sniffing could lead on to harder stuff though. I'm getting partial to the aroma of EP90 and that could lead on to all kinds of transmission rebuilds if I'm not careful.

Does the disco 2 have a cabin filter? If so, would be worth changing it just in case.

My first car had a very stale/doggy smell inside which turned out to be the cabin filter. I tried spraying the filter with all the air fresheners in the cupboard for a quick fix. That just made it smell like a dog wearing perfume instead.

My old Disco was the same, turned out it wasn't something nasty rotting away somewhere. Just some filters that need changing cant remember what they were. Nothing to do with the engine though :D

My Defender doesn't have such refinements and so doesn't smell bad :D

Have it fogged, it's a system used to get rid of bacteria and smells normal cleaning can't, like spilled milk and baby sick, it's a small unit placed in side the vehicle, and it literally fills the car with fog.
