What mpg??

This is to all you guys with the 4.0 V's on petrol

I'm just curious as to what mpg u get urban, rural extra urban, iv never had any better than 15.9 before my engine rebuild and after and are there any tuning mods that would help to raise it, eg superchips or k&n filters,

My 4.6 has averaged 15mpg (according to the OBC - so more likely a few mpg less) over the last 7 years. I reset it when I bought it.

Sounds about right if you ask me....

As for the Magnets - Old School Tony...the latest now is a small amount of additive you can put in the tank. It is a eclectic mix of Glucose (to raise the Energy level of the Fuel), Thickener (to increase the fuels base volume - more density more bang!), a Protein Source usually Albumin (Increased Protein in the fuel increases the Octane level) and a Natural Oil Source usually casein Based (this oil increase the Hydrocarbon content of the fuel).

Mix the Above in the below proportions:

225g(8oz) of Glucose
225g(8oz) of Base Thickener
225g(8oz) of Natural Oil Based Casein
4 Portions of Albumin Protein

Mix together and add to the Fuel Tank....in 20 minutes of Engine Running you'll see noticeable results.

Suggested Sources for the above:

Glucose - Castor Sugar
Thickening Base - Self Raising Flour
Natural Oil - Butter
Protein - Eggs

You can add a spot of baking powder to, to help things along....

Fuel figures for a brand new Range rover 4.0 litre engine with auto box are as follows.
Urban 12.9 MPG.
Extra urban 23.4 MPG.
Combined 18.1 MPG.

So 15.9 is not too far off the mark. Your right foot will give you a few more MPG if you remove the lead boot from it.

I get slightly less than you quote for my 4.0 SE 1995, forget about mods you mention should the running costs bother you get a diesel :)
 
8 cylinders, 2.5 tons, permanent 4 wheel drive, 6 foot high and wide, 8 pints of unleaded isnt really going to get you very far!
On the M6 and taking it gently the fuel thingy on my 4.6 gets up to 20 ish, I've no idea how accurate it is though, any hint of stop start driving like on rural roads and its 15 to 18
If the best you ever getting is 15.9 it does seem a bit low, fill tank, reset trip do a run and re fill and work out what mpg it really is giving you

2.5 tons....yours has put on weight....

2.1 tons Kerb Weight with Full Tank and Driver...

2.7 tons when fully loaded boot, roof rack and passengers.
 
15.9 MPG is about what i get with two disconnected spill pipes ****ing diesel all over the place. But not bad for a petrol i suppose.

The 4.0 will not have a lot if any more power than my diesel i assure you. If you want a burble, buy one of those engine noise simulators popular with the boy racers. You could have a dump valve sounds as well, how cool would that be?
 
My mpg varies depending on where I'm working, when I was working up north so most of my driving was on the motorway I averaged 20-22 mpg. Now I'm down south again I'm averaging 18mpg (brim to brim calculations) Thor 4.6. My fuel consumption is better than my old 3.9 efi classic which rarely returned more than 15 mpg.

Donno anything about boy racing equipment, probably need to be derv burner to even think about it:D

I am not interested in the sound the engine makes, when i am driving i can't hear it. Must be a bitch to have to drive with a window open all the time to hear your burble. If i want to hear a V8 burble i just start the Porsche up. :D:p
