Once upon a time the rear de-mister fell to bits, way before I owned it

But I now have a rear de-mister thanks to the power of a soldering iron

Well I was going to do the owu test today after replacing the vcu and uj's last weekend - but its bouncing down out there so might leave that until tomorrow. :)

Might have bought a 1.8 G4 in Tangiers. Subject to a look see.
Considering buying a crashed V6 and doing a transplant?? Major problems?

As long as the G4 is a post 2001, then there's no issues with a swap like that. You'll need what the Yanks call the front clip, basically everything from the front, which is connected to the front sub-frame. So engine (obviously), gearbox (again obviously), the IRD, the front suspension, the propshafts and VCU, and the front driveshafts. It would also be sensible to switch over the ABS modulator, just in case the programming is different on a V6. You'll need the gear selector assembly, and the auto brake pedal, along with all the V6 engine electrical system, immobiliser, key transponder and maybe the dash, although I suspect that's the same.

It's quite a lot of work, but very possible if you're in no hurry.

Today I finished painting the replacement rear quarter bumper for my 1.8 XEi. Annoyingly the paint is the wrong colour, but hopefully it won't notice too much.

Yes, all fair enough. Any information about the wiring loom. Hope to either get away with engine bay loom and maybe engine bay to dash
Hoping just to change instrument panel. Fuel tank and pump arrangements?

Will do a load of research before commencing. The 1.8 has had loads of work done hg, belts etc. and a new clutch so will run it for a while. Always wanted an orange one!!
Might be easier to respray my V6, but not so much fun!

I expect you'll get away with just changing the engine bay harness.

You might not need to go as far as the dash harness.

Fuel tank and pump arrangements?
That's common to 1.8 and V6.

Sell on the stuff you don't want.;)

It'll be cheaper to do a V6 swap, as paint is an expensive business these days.

Last question.... For now!!
Why is post 2001 important is it abs related? Also does donor V6 need to be post 2001? Thanks. Would be interesting project and vehicle would be worth more. Not sure how many of each engine type survive?

Have removed remote fuel pump today, after it failed Friday & cleaned all the bits I've removed so when the new (Pierburg) pump arrives it's all ready to go straight back together.

Bought another one! V6 with cooling issues and water loss but an SE in excellent condition. 70k miles and very cheap:)
Might be a donor for my 1.8 G4 to V6 conversion or might be a fixer upper.
First impressions are not hgf.
Has had a new thermostat and has been loosing water. Will be conducting thorough leak check before declaring it's future.

It's number 7. G4 viewing next week. Just brought V6 home. Lovely car. Used no water on the 5 mile trip but can hear hissing!! When it stops tipping it down I'll be onto it. 72k from new, 3/4 tank of fuel, towbar, SE trim, silver with no dents. For less than the price of 3 tanks of fuel!!

I wish I could find a bargain like that. I'm a fan of the KV6 myself, having owned 3 vehicles fitted with it.

We had a 2.0 litre KV6 powered Rover 75 - a really lovely car with a gorgeously smooth and sonorous engine. Not especially powerful or torquey in that application, but I could easily forgive it that foible :)

I'd love to have another - but sadly they're not ULEZ friendly :(

The 2.5 is better, as it has more torque, with a similar fuel usage.

I'm surprised by that. What's the reason for it not complying?

The 2.5 is definitely the pick of the bunch. We only got the 2.0 litre because that was what was available at the time :) It was replaced by the CDTi ZTT, but I always felt the 2.5 KV6 powered car was the nicer steer :)

Unlike the 1.8, it has a too-high NOx rating on its EU3 homologation :(

I'm currently on the case to see whether I can get my EU2 MGFs into an exemption group - I suspect that there is a good chance that it's NOx levels are similar (perhaps less than) the EU3 homologated engine, but for EU2, the quoted levels are only for combined HC+NOx.
