Nice Tiki - actually Heitiki.
Thanks it was my grandmas, she loved NZ. It has tiki in quotes on the back and then New Zealand green stone, or something to that effect
lol, I have another iconic Kiwi Souvenir Shop gift - a Ponga Vase - that was my grandmas Members of our family have migrated to and from NZ quite regularly over the last 60 years!
Hijacking the thread a bit here - so.....
Took the Freelander for its WOF (MOT) today - passed with flying colours. Mind you the guy who tested it must have pressed every button he could find cos the rear window was open when I picked it up - and the sun roof - does he not know that you should NEVER press the button to open the sunroof on a Freelander! It will probably leak like a sieve now.

Oh dear - does it sound serious? Silly question really cos any sound originating from the IRD is serious!
If you need to rebuild it, I can recommend the bearing/cooler/seal kit from One Stop Gearbox Shop
I rebuilt my IRD with one of their kits (cost about £150) and it has been running fine for a couple of years now. I gave the IRD & kit to a 'diff shop' here in Chch as I didn't want to bugger around pulling and pushing bearings and f****g it up - but I believe you have tools/experience to do that yourself. Their report back to me was that a couple of seals were missing from the kit that they had to source. The kit didn't contain new 'shims'. I didn't even consider them at the time and I don't know if the diff shop renewed them - I don't know how important they are.
Using one of these kits relies on your crown & pinion gears being in good nick (mine were trashed) - they're quite a common part listed on eBay/Landie stores, but have no experience of them as I rebuilt 2WD by removing gear on the end of the pinion. I'm looking to reinstate 4WD - so will probably be getting some though
If you need to replace the crown/pinion gears, the price starts getting closer to just getting a recon IRD and replacing it. Be careful though, I looked around and I wouldn't trust a lot of the outfits to do a proper job (eg replace the gears with new). In fact I wouldn't even trust them with my neighbour's Landcruiser!
