The back box fell off, for the second time just before the joint. I got fed up of welding it back up. It isn't that much louder without it and for a while I had it just the center pipe to the bit over the subframe, then it started rattling.
I would need a new back box, center pipe and the bolts that hold the cat on are siezed so would need a new one of them aswell. If I replaced all that I would like to replace the flexi pipe aswell. So for one little rusty bit about 2" long I would need to replace the whole lot costing a lot. Bit of a shame when the rest of the exhaust is good. The MOT laws either just about to or already have changed to make diesel cars keep the cats so can't really remove it.
The repair I made didn't cost much. £6 for an exhaust clamp which I only used because I couldn't remove the exhaust to weld it properly. The bit of rubber that is squeezed between the exhaust and the angle stops the exhaust resonating around the car. Not a perfect solution but as I said I ran out of gas to weld a bolt on and hang it properly
