What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

New swivel pin bearings fitted to nearside.
All 13 of the previous roller bearings recovered.

I reckon this was due to the pre-load not being high enough. I've taken a couple of wafer thin shims out and judged it by hand. Rather than my fishing scales :rolleyes:

Refitted the turbo after taking it off and cleaning it out with brake fluid. The oil outflow pipe is a b@stard to fit and I'm certain that is the root of my turbo/oil consumption problem.
 
CT (mot) due in 10 days time, thought I aught to strip the rear brake drums and clean the dust out and re-adjust.
Struggled to get the drums off, and when I did they were worn and scored badly. My fault for not cleaning them out after a lot of off-roading this last autumn I suppose.
New drums, shoes and springs ordered, should be putting everything back together before the weekend, I hope.
Will post some picks of badly maintained rear brakes for you to laugh at in the next day or two.

Brake bits ordered yesterday just after lunch turned up this morning :eek::eek: actually got one side fitted 24 hours after ordering. Job done now and road tested, all OK, will re-adjust in a few days time when the whole lot has bedded in a bit.
Anyway; this is a badly maintained rear brake.

A good bit of kit, paid £25 for it at a sortout 20 years ago, it was old and knarley then, but never lets me down.
 
Feeling a bit chuffed with having fixed something without it turning into the usual drama, decided to fettle the front prop and put the joints 45 deg out of phase as advised on here by someone ages ago. Sorry can't remember who.:(
Test drive and a quite nasty judder, esp under load. Oh fiddle, or words to that effect, Put everything back as was, no difference, worse if anything. Double pigging fiddle,:mad::mad: Check rear brakes for binding, seems to be OK. Check joints on rear prop, perhaps just a touch loose on the rearmost joint, take prop off and the rear joint is now flapping about like something has suddenly turned to jelly.
As luck would have it I have new GKN joints in stock so change it, will re-fit the prop and test tomorrow.

Feckin Land Rovers. Just for a minute there I thought I had started to get on top of the list.:eek::eek::eek:
 
Just drove a few easy lanes to find a friend an overnight stopover.
Then found I need 2 new door hinges these are only a year old. Looks like I might get some better ones (or take the old ones of the other doors :eek:)

The 90 passed her CT (mot) today :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
3 advisories, 1st one being that it was apparent that rust in chassis had been repaired. (doh)
2nd that there was a dent in the r/h wing - but not posing a danger to others.
3rd that there was a dent in the l/h door - but not posing a danger to others.
All above comments were just part of the modern system.
I did wonder if any comment would be made about the colour scheme.

I looked at mine after I got back from work.

Beer in hand, I was mentally thinking out what I need/want to do to her! Then I started panicking about how much money I've already spent on it, quietly turned around and fetched another beer. Not so much panic now!! :)
 
Fixing more of the previous owners bodge jobs :mad:
  • Replaced the front prop-shaft for a heavy-duty double cardan (the previous owner had put a lift on but decided to leave the original shaft on, hence f**k UJs!!)
  • Replaced all bushes (replaced with cheap cr*p by the previous owner, but rather than use a vice to put the radius arm bushes in properly, decided it was better to cut them in half to fit them, then fitted dry and therefore the bolt and sleeves fused together... 4 hours of cutting bolts out :mad:)
Some people should be banned from owning Landy's... Pic's included to allow you to have a laugh at my expense ;)

Insurance is due in the next few weeks - comparison sites say it’s a van??!!! What happened overnight? The vehicle looks the same, drives the same, no windows have been taken out and replaced by panels....it was a car last year, and the year before and all the years before! So what has changed?
 
Did your calipers actually contain any fluid? I'm surprised all that rust is holding together.
If you can get them off it's not a total disaster, there pretty cheap to replace.

The brakes did work (quite well too) despite the other side looking very similar. The front calipers look better (or should I say, less rusty) ...

this is my life!!! I even stopped drinking for a week as kept doing that lol.
 
Slowly working my way round the chassis and cross members with airline, brush, Jenolite, Dinitrol cavity wax etc. Taking my time over it doing it bit by bit.
Only found a couple of very small areas (so far) that need remedial, one I've rounded off and made into a drain hole, the other needs a 2x1 plate
Surprisingly clean and solid really. Had repaired the rear cross member a few years ago and it has remained good, no rust returning so pleased about that.
Once all done will give it a blast over with Dinitrol chassis paint
